MUFG Retirement Solutions has acquired a minority stake in InvestStream, expanding an existing partnership in digital advice and guidance for Australian superannuation members.
Part of MUFG Pension & Market Services, MUFG Retirement Solutions said the investment deepens a relationship launched earlier this year. Under the arrangement, the group's superannuation administration platform will be combined with InvestStream's financial modelling and engagement technology.
The joint offering is intended to help superannuation funds provide personalised digital advice, guidance and education services to members at greater scale. It is aimed at members seeking support with retirement planning and broader financial decisions linked to their superannuation.
InvestStream's tools include its SuperAnne conversational engagement platform and the SUGAI financial modelling engine. These products will sit alongside MUFG Retirement Solutions' administration systems and operational expertise.
The combined setup is designed to help members better understand their financial position, engage more actively with their superannuation and assess retirement options based on their circumstances. The initial rollout to clients is targeted for early 2027.
Advice gap
The transaction comes as superannuation funds face growing pressure to improve member engagement while keeping advice accessible and affordable. Many Australians must make decisions about contributions, retirement timing and income planning, often without access to personal advice.
Frank Lombardo, Chief Executive Officer of MUFG Retirement Solutions ANZ, said the issue went beyond a single commercial partnership.
"Millions of Australians face important decisions about their financial future, yet access to advice and guidance remains out of reach for many. This partnership is an important step that will help democratise access and support Australians to make more informed financial decisions. By combining our administration platform and expertise with InvestStream's technology, we can better support superannuation funds to scale their personalised, digitally enabled advice, all within a single ecosystem. Ultimately, it's super fund members who truly benefit, as it becomes easier and more affordable to access financial advice that could have a meaningful impact on their retirement," Lombardo said.
The agreement also gives InvestStream a strategic shareholder with established links across the retirement savings sector. MUFG Retirement Solutions provides administration services to superannuation funds, positioning it to distribute digital member services through existing client relationships.
Technology focus
InvestStream has developed software designed to simplify complex financial modelling and present it through a conversational interface. Its products support projections and guidance while maintaining a single underlying modelling framework.
Jason Hoang, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of InvestStream, said the partnership reflected a shared view of how members want to engage with retirement planning.
"People don't wake up in the morning thinking, 'I'm going to have a concessional contribution journey today.' They're thinking, 'Have I got enough money to retire?' We wanted to change the way advice is delivered by putting more of the tools and capabilities that support financial decision-making directly into members' hands. MPMS's investment is a strong endorsement of what we've built: governed financial modelling delivered through a simple conversation. Together, we can bring that technology to more super fund members, helping them understand where they stand and what choices they have," Hoang said.
The minority investment signals closer alignment between administration services and member-facing advice technology in the superannuation sector. Funds have increasingly sought digital tools that can support large member bases without relying solely on traditional one-to-one advisory models.
For MUFG Retirement Solutions, the stake adds an ownership position to a commercial partnership already focused on digital advice, guidance and education. For InvestStream, it provides backing from a larger industry participant as it seeks broader adoption of its platforms across superannuation funds.
The combined service will operate within a single ecosystem for funds and members, linking administration data with digital guidance tools.
