The Ultimate Guide to Edge Computing
2024 edition
Overview

As the name implies, Edge Computing is an architecture putting resources including compute and storage at the network’s outer extremities. What are these extremities? The sources of data; for example, in an Internet of Things deployment, data might be generated in a farmer’s field or in a high-rise building. Both cases represent the edge of the network (though the corporate building isn’t physically distant from the network). Edge computing accelerates data processing and storage, reducing bandwidth demands and delivering results where they are required.
