Spinnaker appoints Rex Young as Chief Information Officer

Spinnaker Support has appointed Rex Young as Chief Information Officer as it expands its global operations.

Young will report to Chief Executive Officer Matt Stava and oversee the company's technology strategy, including internal platforms, data and analytics, cybersecurity, and the use of artificial intelligence.

The appointment adds another senior technology executive to Spinnaker's leadership team as demand rises for third-party support across Oracle, SAP, VMware, and PostgreSQL systems. The company says it serves more than 1,300 clients worldwide.

Young brings more than 25 years of technology leadership experience. Most recently, he was Chief Information Officer and Chief Information Security Officer at SambaSafety, where he led enterprise IT, information security, digital transformation, AI initiatives, and modernization projects tied to the company's growth.

Earlier in his career, he served as Chief Information Officer at LogRhythm, building a background in security and large-scale IT operations as Spinnaker broadens its international footprint.

His responsibilities will include updating core technology systems, strengthening security controls, and working with other senior leaders on the use of technology in operations and customer-facing services.

Stava described the hire as part of the company's broader operational development.

Spinnaker has been building its international presence over the past year. It recently opened an office in South Africa through a partnership with African Rainbow Capital, creating a regional delivery and engineering hub for customers across Africa and sub-Saharan markets.

Growth areas

Spinnaker says it is maintaining double-digit revenue growth as more companies seek alternatives to software vendors for support and maintenance. Its VMware division has also added dozens of enterprise clients following licensing changes introduced by Broadcom.

That business has offered support for organizations running vSphere 7 beyond Broadcom's end-of-support deadline, part of a broader push to win customers seeking continuity outside vendor-led support models.

Young said his focus will be aligning the company's systems with its pace of expansion while limiting the risks that can come with broader AI deployment and more complex technology estates.

Spinnaker operates in a market where independent support providers position themselves as an option for businesses seeking to extend the life of software systems or reduce reliance on original vendors. The company says its support teams average more than 20 years of engineering experience and that it has a 94% customer satisfaction rating.

The hire also reflects a broader shift in enterprise technology management, where Chief Information Officers are increasingly expected to oversee not only infrastructure and internal systems but also cyber risk, data strategy, and the use of AI tools across business functions. At companies expanding across regions and product lines, the role often becomes central to standardizing and securing operations.

For Spinnaker, adding a Chief Information Officer with security experience suggests that operational scale and cyber resilience are linked priorities. Young said he wants to build technology that benefits customers directly, not only systems that support internal operations.
