Smartsheet boosts AI platform & grows Australian presence

Fri, 11th Jul 2025

Smartsheet has outlined recent and upcoming developments in its AI-powered work management platform, alongside an expanded presence in Australia and updates to its product offerings.

Pratima Arora, Chief Product Officer at Smartsheet, described significant progress in the company's approach, stating, "There's a ton of momentum at Smartsheet right now, and I couldn't be more excited to be part of it. Since joining in April, I've been inspired by how deeply this team listens to customers and turns that feedback into meaningful innovation that makes a difference in how people work."

Platform enhancements

Smartsheet has introduced several AI-driven capabilities aimed at supporting enterprise teams in managing high volumes of work efficiently. The platform's recent feature updates include formula generation and AI-generated charts, designed to allow users to build and visualise projects without requiring advanced technical skills. According to the company, these enhancements are intended to reduce complexity and help users access the information they need more readily.

Arora highlighted the recent customer engagement activities, saying, "Over the past few months, we've connected with hundreds of customers at Smartsheet Summits in Melbourne, Sydney, and London. Learning how teams are using Smartsheet to drive impact - across industries and around the world - has been incredibly energising. We also expanded our global footprint with Smartsheet Regions Australia, providing customers with capabilities that support their performance, scale, and compliance requirements."

The company's new AI-powered guided project setup for trial users aims to allow teams to launch their first projects within minutes, supported by personalised recommendations for assigning tasks, sharing reports, and building dashboards.

AI in work management

The Smartsheet platform now features a knowledge graph data model. This model is designed to understand relationships between teams, tasks, and content, enabling personalised suggestions throughout the system. According to Smartsheet, these enhancements are part of a broader effort to make work management tools more efficient, particularly for teams spread across multiple locations and time zones.

"AI is transforming what's possible in work management. We're embracing that shift by building fast, intuitive, and connected tools that meet you where you are and grow with you."

The company cited a recent industry trend: over 85% of businesses currently use project management software, but only 16% say they can easily access all necessary information in one place. Smartsheet's enhancements are positioned as a direct response to this disparity, offering scalable tools intended to bridge the gap between strategy and daily execution.

Supporting strategic decision-making

Later in the year, Smartsheet plans to launch scenario planning capabilities, which will enable users to compare project and resource options, identify risks early in the process, and make more informed decisions before proceeding with tasks. "Teams need smarter ways to plan, adapt, and deliver, and effective project management is central to that. At Smartsheet, we're not just responding to this need; we're shaping what's next," said Arora.

The company is also updating its platform interface, including a redesigned table view with refreshed user interface elements, increased data capacity, smoother scrolling, more responsive editing, and features like column links. A timeline view widget for dashboards, allowing users to map project phases and milestones, is currently available as an early access preview.

Architecture and compliance

Arora emphasised the platform's evolving architecture, stating, "Behind the scenes, we're evolving into a next-generation platform purpose-built for the modern era of dynamic, AI-powered work. At its core, our architecture is designed to adapt to growing customer needs while reliably supporting complex, high-volume enterprise workloads."

Smartsheet has also highlighted a focus on the responsible deployment of AI features, which includes ensuring high standards for data privacy, security, and governance while exploring the potential for agentic AI that can offer proactive guidance to users.

On her recent tenure and the direction of the company, Arora stated, "It's an exciting time to be at Smartsheet - and an even better time to be a Smartsheet user. Since joining I've been impressed how quickly we're evolving and how deeply we're focused on impact. What we're building isn't just smart. It's more connected, intelligent, and impactful. You'll notice the shift across our platform and how we think about what's possible."

The company has signalled an ongoing commitment to rolling out additional features and updates, with communications to users and customers planned over the coming months.
