PayPal brings buy now, pay later to Ticketek in new deal
PayPal Australia and Ticketek have announced a partnership that will see PayPal offered as a payment method for ticket purchases across Ticketek's platform in Australia.
Under the agreement, Ticketek users can now select PayPal at checkout when buying tickets for live entertainment events. This integration also enables access to PayPal's buy now, pay later solution known as PayPal Pay in 4, allowing users to pay for tickets in instalments.
Flexible payments
The addition of PayPal aims to provide consumers with greater choice and flexibility in how they pay for their tickets. Millions of Australians use PayPal for online purchases, and Ticketek's adoption of this payment method is expected to align with evolving consumer preferences for trust and convenience during the payment process.
Cameron Hoy, Chief Operating Officer & Head of Global Ticketing at Ticketek Entertainment Group, said, "By integrating PayPal as a payment option on the Ticketek platform, we're providing our customers with greater choice and convenience when purchasing tickets. It reflects our commitment to enhancing the ticket buying experience through meeting the evolving preferences of our customers."
Security features
PayPal's payment platform is supported by buyer protection policies, advanced encryption, and real-time fraud detection. These measures are designed to safeguard payments and customer data, which is protected through compliance with strict privacy standards and industry security protocols.
Simon Banks, Managing Director of PayPal Australia, highlighted the trust that Australians place in PayPal, as well as the positive impact of its availability at checkout. He stated, "PayPal's inherent security and protections is why millions of individuals and businesses worldwide trust PayPal to manage their payments with confidence – and it's what makes PayPal Australia's most trusted online payment option."
"Our data shows that Australian consumers are over three times more likely to make a transaction when PayPal is offered at checkout, demonstrating the value the PayPal brand brings to this partnership. With PayPal on Ticketek, fans can check out in as little as seconds or choose to spread the cost with PayPal Pay in 4, using a flexible payment option they know and trust."
Transaction monitoring and privacy
According to PayPal, transactions conducted via its platform are monitored for suspicious activity. The company claims it continuously invests in technology to stay ahead of potential threats to online security. This enhanced monitoring is intended to protect both consumers and merchants from fraud and other risks associated with digital payments.
The partnership leverages PayPal's presence in the Australian market, where the payment provider has served customers since 2005 and claims more than 9.5 million active accounts nationwide. Ticketek, which provides ticketing services for a range of live entertainment and sports events, will incorporate PayPal's services into its multi-channel sales and distribution network.
Consumer experience
The introduction of PayPal's services through Ticketek is part of a broader trend towards expanding payment options for online purchases. By offering buy now, pay later functionality alongside conventional transactions, both companies expect to cater to consumers who value flexibility in spending as well as those focused on transaction security.
The deal is positioned by both parties as a response to the changing habits of Australian entertainment fans and an effort to simplify the process of purchasing event tickets.
Ticketek operates one of Australia's largest ticketing platforms, with a presence in the entertainment and sports industries. The company provides multi-channel ticket sales and distribution services for events across the country.
PayPal is accepted across a wide array of retailers and services in Australia, and its expansion to more platforms reflects ongoing changes in consumer expectations for digital payments.
