WatchGuard Technologies has appointed Allison Clarke as Vice President of Partner Programs and GTM Strategy, a newly created role intended to strengthen its channel-led business model.

Clarke will lead WatchGuard's global partner strategy across enablement, pricing, packaging and go-to-market activity. The role is designed to align partner programmes and commercial strategy across different routes to market, while making partner feedback more central to business decisions.

Her appointment comes as WatchGuard reinforces its reliance on indirect sales, operating through what it describes as a 100 per cent channel-focused model. In practice, that means selling through partners rather than directly, with partner programmes and incentives at the centre of its route to market.

Clarke brings more than 20 years of channel and go-to-market experience. Before joining WatchGuard, she spent nearly a decade at Sophos working on global channel strategy and partner programmes. Most recently, she was Vice President of GTM and Partner Programs at SonicWall. She also held senior roles at McAfee.

She will oversee efforts to simplify how partners do business with WatchGuard. Her remit includes programmes, enablement, pricing, packaging and product strategy, areas that often shape how vendors compete for reseller, distributor and managed service provider attention in the cybersecurity market.

The appointment also reflects a broader trend in enterprise technology and cybersecurity, where vendors are reworking partner schemes to reduce administrative complexity and improve consistency across sales motions. Managed service providers, in particular, have become increasingly important for security companies seeking access to mid-market and smaller business customers.

WatchGuard has a long-standing focus on managed security providers and says it works with more than 25,000 MSPs serving over 1.5 million customers worldwide across network, endpoint, identity and cloud security products.

Joe Smolarski, Chief Executive Officer of WatchGuard, outlined the rationale for the hire.

"Our goal is simple: make WatchGuard the easiest company in cybersecurity to do business with. Partners are at the center of everything we do, and Allison's appointment reflects our commitment to building a more connected, frictionless partner experience. Her track record of creating programs that help partners grow makes her the right leader to help drive our next phase of channel success," said Smolarski.

The new role suggests a closer link between partner operations and broader commercial planning. Combining partner programmes with go-to-market strategy under one executive can help vendors avoid the disconnect that sometimes emerges between product packaging, pricing and the practical needs of channel partners.

Channel focus

Cybersecurity companies have been sharpening that focus as partners ask for simpler product bundles, clearer margins and less fragmented sales engagement. Vendors that rely on MSPs and resellers often face pressure to make quoting, renewals, support and training easier to navigate, particularly as product portfolios expand through acquisitions or new service lines.

Clarke's background at Sophos, SonicWall and McAfee places her among a group of channel executives who have worked across several established cybersecurity brands. That experience is likely to be relevant as WatchGuard refines how its partner ecosystem interacts with the business globally.

Clarke also commented on her move and the emphasis she intends to place on flexibility for partners.

"WatchGuard's commitment to its partners is one of the things that attracted me to the company. Partners want to do business on their terms, through the routes and motions that work best for them. My focus is on ensuring every interaction with WatchGuard is as simple, consistent, and rewarding as possible," said Clarke.
