Vaisala has launched Viewlinc Cloud Suite, a cloud-based environmental monitoring system that includes a version for regulated life sciences settings.

The system is aimed at organisations that need to monitor environmental conditions across research, healthcare, industrial and commercial operations. The software is designed to help users maintain visibility over conditions affecting laboratories, storage and production environments without relying on a local application server.

Viewlinc Cloud Suite will be sold in two editions. The Professional Edition is intended for industrial and commercial uses, including healthcare facilities, logistics, museums, archives and research institutions, and also supports condition monitoring for power infrastructure.

The GxP Edition is focused on regulated life sciences environments, including pharmaceutical, healthcare and medical device manufacturing. According to Vaisala, this version includes continuous validation and documentation intended to support Good Practise compliance requirements.

The launch reflects a wider push by suppliers to life sciences and research organisations to reach customers earlier in their development cycle. Companies working on therapies, diagnostics and other health technologies often begin in small laboratory settings, but face stricter demands on documentation, audit readiness and compliance as they move towards regulated production.

Environmental monitoring systems are used to track conditions in spaces where temperature, humidity and related factors can affect research materials, manufacturing processes and product quality. In regulated sectors, records from these systems can also form part of compliance documentation and internal quality controls.

Vaisala says the cloud-based design removes the need for a local application server, which could reduce internal IT work for customers. The suite also offers real-time monitoring, alarms, reporting and audit trails, with access from desktop and mobile devices.

The product is intended to support both small installations and larger multi-site operations. This suggests Vaisala is targeting customers ranging from early-stage research groups to established manufacturers with monitoring needs across several sites.

Service package

Alongside the software launch, Vaisala has introduced Vaisala Care for Viewlinc, a lifecycle service offering for customers using the system. It will be available in two tiers, Vaisala Care and Vaisala Care+, with features including expert support, remote training, planned system health checks and extended warranty cover.

The package is positioned as a way to support monitoring systems throughout their operational life, rather than only at installation. That approach reflects demand from regulated industries for ongoing system oversight, staff training and maintenance records alongside the software itself.

Initial availability for the service will cover Australia, North America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The software itself will be available worldwide, excluding China, according to the company.

Jarno Mitjonen, Manager, Software Products, at Vaisala's Industrial Measurements business, outlined the company's view of the market in a statement accompanying the launch.

"The next breakthrough therapy, diagnostic method, or biotechnology innovation may begin in a single laboratory. Research taking place today in laboratories, startups, and life sciences innovation hubs can ultimately lead to breakthroughs that transform healthcare and even save lives. Those innovations depend on trusted data, controlled conditions and confidence in the environments where that work takes place. A single undetected equipment failure can put years of research at risk, delay a product launch, or compromise valuable materials. Organisations need monitoring that protects critical assets and conditions from the start and continues supporting them as their work evolves," said Mitjonen.

Vaisala is known for measurement instruments and monitoring systems used across environmental and industrial applications. With this launch, it is combining that instrumentation base with subscription-style cloud software and support services, a model that has become more common across scientific and industrial technology markets.

For life sciences customers, the distinction between a general monitoring tool and one suited to regulated work is significant. Organisations operating under GxP frameworks typically need evidence that systems are validated, records are maintained, and alarms, reports and audit trails can be reviewed during inspections or internal audits.

By contrast, the Professional Edition is aimed at organisations that need monitoring and reporting but do not face the same compliance burden. That includes users such as archives, museums and logistics operators, where maintaining stable conditions can still be critical to preserving goods, collections or stored materials.

The launch also shows how vendors are trying to create a clearer upgrade path for customers as operations expand. A small research group may begin with basic monitoring needs, but later require more formal controls and records if its work progresses towards manufacturing, clinical supply or other regulated activities.

Vaisala employs close to 2,500 people and its Series A shares are listed in Helsinki.
