SanDisk has been named the exclusive storage partner for Meta VR Glasses, covering official Made for Meta microSD Express cards and USB-C flash drives for the headset range.

The products are due to launch alongside Meta VR Glasses in spring 2027 and will be sold in markets where the device is available.

Under the agreement, SanDisk will supply flash storage products developed with Meta and tested for use with the new headset. The range will sit within Meta's Made for Meta accessories programme, which certifies products for compatibility with the company's hardware.

The two product types are microSD Express memory cards and USB-C flash drives, intended to give users additional space for games, apps and other virtual reality content stored on the glasses.

Accessory push

The partnership adds storage to Meta's broader accessories ecosystem for its upcoming VR device. For SanDisk, the deal places its consumer memory products alongside a new hardware launch from one of the biggest investors in virtual and mixed reality.

Meta has been building an accessories programme around its hardware to steer buyers towards tested add-ons. In this case, SanDisk's products have been certified for Meta VR Glasses and are being positioned as expansion options for users who want to maintain larger content libraries on their devices.

Susan Park, Vice President of Product Management, Consumer Products, at SanDisk, said: "We are thrilled to be the exclusive storage provider to help Meta power the future of virtual reality."

Describing the intended use of the cards, she added: "SanDisk's high-performance microSD Express memory cards integrate seamlessly with new Meta VR Glasses, offering immediate access to additional storage capacity and allowing users to fully enjoy their favourite premium media and entertainment content."

Market focus

The announcement highlights the role removable and external storage could play in headset ecosystems as software libraries grow and media files take up more space. While smartphone makers have largely moved away from expandable storage, the VR market still offers a case for accessories that let users carry or swap stored content more easily.

The products will be offered in regions where Meta VR Glasses are sold. Pricing, capacities and the number of products in the range were not disclosed.

SanDisk describes itself as a vertically integrated semiconductor business, with operations spanning enterprise solid-state drives, consumer devices and connected systems. In the consumer market, it is best known for memory cards and flash storage products sold under the SanDisk brand.

The Meta agreement gives SanDisk an exclusive role in one accessory segment for the headset launch, at a time when device makers are seeking tighter control over approved third-party products and the user experience across connected hardware.

The arrangement also connects SanDisk's storage portfolio with Meta's efforts to develop an accessories ecosystem around its virtual reality hardware, giving consumers additional storage options as part of the device's launch.
