Samsung launches SSD 9100 PRO in Australia, 8TB model coming

Tue, 18th Mar 2025

Samsung Electronics Australia has introduced the SSD 9100 PRO Series to the Australian market, offering NVMe Gen5 SSDs in a range of capacities aimed at high-performance applications.

The SSD 9100 PRO and SSD 9100 PRO with Heatsink are now available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB models, with Samsung confirming plans to add an 8TB version to the lineup in the second half of 2025. These storage solutions are designed for users that require fast data transfer rates and large capacity, including gamers, content creators, and professionals involved in artificial intelligence (AI) workflows.

The new SSD series is positioned to deliver a significant performance boost over previous models, with sequential read and write speeds that can reach up to 14,800 MB/s and 13,400 MB/s, respectively, on select models. This performance is enabled by PCIe 5.0 technology and a 5nm controller, resulting in data transfer rates nearly double those of Samsung's previous generation SSDs. According to Samsung, the SSD 9100 PRO offers up to 49% greater power efficiency in comparison to its predecessor.

Discussing the new release, Bojan Jovic, Product Manager - Brand Memory Solutions at Samsung Australia, stated: "The SSD 9100 PRO Series sets a new benchmark for fast, powerful and reliable storage while being the first NVMe SSD capable of supporting 8TBs of capacity. 2025 is going to be a year of advancements in technology with new generation chipsets capable of running complex AI workflows, enhanced gaming experiences, and bigger data loads on local devices rather than in the cloud on the way. Samsung's SSD 9100 PRO Series is performance ready to meet this new era and will support Australians in personal and professional tasks - from handling professional photo and video editing, generating AI content, to PC and console gaming."

The product's enhanced speed is also matched by its compatibility and thermal control options. The Heatsink models, available in 1TB, 2TB and 4TB capacities, offer a slim profile of 8.8mm, opening compatibility with a wider array of devices, such as laptops, desktop PCs, and PlayStation 5 consoles. The anticipated 8TB model, at 11.25mm, will also be compatible with PlayStation 5 consoles.

Alongside the hardware improvements, the SSD 9100 PRO Series is paired with Samsung Magician Software. This utility enables users to monitor real-time performance, conduct firmware upgrades, check authenticity, and identify potential issues before failures occur. The software aims to help users ensure their drives operate at peak efficiency.

The retail prices in Australia for the SSD 9100 PRO Series are set at AUD $799 for the 4TB model, AUD $419 for the 2TB model, and AUD $259 for the 1TB model. The SSD 9100 PRO with Heatsink is priced at AUD $819 for the 4TB model, AUD $439 for the 2TB model, and AUD $279 for the 1TB model. The 8TB versions are scheduled for launch in the latter half of 2025.

Technical specifications for the series include the use of Samsung V NAND TLC (V8), an in-house controller, and varying amounts of LPDDR4X cache memory depending on the drive's capacity, up to 8GB for the forthcoming 8TB model. The drives support hardware-based encryption including AES 256, TCG/Opal v2.0, and MS eDrive (IEEE1667). Warranty for all models in the series is five years, covering total bytes written of up to 4,800TB for the largest capacity.

Samsung's SSD 9100 PRO Series is now available through select resellers in Australia. The company states that the products are suitable for use in high-intensity scenarios such as 8K video editing, AI projects, modern gaming, and data analysis, with capacities and features designed to support large local data processing requirements.
