Ricoh Australia launches inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan

Thu, 30th May 2024

Ricoh Australia has announced the launch of its inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), underlining its ongoing commitment to sustainable and strategic measures towards advancing reconciliation. The company, which specialises in smart workplace technology, aims to foster a more equitable and inclusive society through this initiative.

Over the next year, Ricoh Australia will implement several key actions as part of its RAP. These actions aim to elevate awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, create employment opportunities for First Nations peoples, and support First Nations suppliers and companies to improve economic and social outcomes.

Yasu Takahashi, Managing Director of Ricoh Australia, stated, "Our RAP signifies our commitment to develop meaningful and respectful partnerships with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islands peoples. Implementing our Reconciliation Action Plan will create new learnings for many of our team members to better understand the importance of First Nations cultures and being on Country. We also aim to create a proud culture for the people of our organisation and to recognise the importance of the First Nations history of Australia. We look forward to meaningfully impact reconciliation in Australia and contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society."

The development of a Sustainable RAP is a critical component of Ricoh's Diversity Policy, which underpins its commitment to employing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This includes providing pathways to employment, professional development, and retention strategies tailored specifically for First Nations staff.

Ricoh also aims to ensure that the individual career aspirations and personal goals of its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff are acknowledged, promoted, and achieved. To support this, the RAP incorporates a strong focus on governance with built-in accountability and transparency. The company commits to reporting on achievements, challenges, and learnings both internally and externally and providing the necessary support for effective implementation of the RAP commitments.

Karen Mundine, Chief Executive Officer of Reconciliation Australia, commented, "Reconciliation Australia welcomes Ricoh Australia to the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) program with the formal endorsement of its inaugural Reflect RAP. Ricoh Australia joins a network of more than 2,200 corporate, government, and not-for-profit organisations that have made a formal commitment to reconciliation through the RAP program. I look forward to following their reconciliation journey in the years to come."
