MSI reveals AMD EPYC 9005 based server platforms

Thu, 17th Oct 2024

MSI has unveiled new server boards and platforms based on the AMD EPYC 9005 series CPUs, which are designed to enhance performance and efficiency in data centres.

The server solutions are built around AMD's latest processors, which offer up to 192 cores and 384 threads. This powerful combination is designed to handle demanding data centre tasks, including AI-enabled processes, cloud-native applications, and business-critical operations, while also focusing on energy efficiency.

Danny Hsu, General Manager of MSI's Enterprise Platform Solutions, stated, "Our new AMD EPYC 9005 Series CPU-based platforms are not just about raw performance; they represent a strategic leap forward for data centres looking to maximise operational efficiency while minimising their environmental footprint. These systems ensure that enterprises can stay ahead of evolving industry demands and adapt quickly to new opportunities."

Ravi Kuppuswamy, Senior Vice President of AMD's Server Business Unit, echoed this sentiment: "5th Gen AMD EPYC Processors deliver the compute capabilities our customers require for their most demanding AI-enabled data centre workloads. Our highly efficient 'Zen 5' cores and innovative chiplet-based architecture allowed us to build an advanced, diversified server CPU portfolio that addresses the rapidly evolving needs of our customers and the modern data centre."

The DC-MHS series from MSI offers enhanced flexibility and scalability for contemporary data centres. These solutions are powered by AMD EPYC 9005 Series processors and include DC-SCM2 server management modules with Aspeed AST2600 BMCs, which aim to improve server maintainability and operational efficiency.

The multi-node server platforms within this series include the CD370-S4051-X2, a 3U, 2-node server with NVMe bays per node tailored for AI and data-heavy tasks, and the CD270-S4051-X2, a 2U, 2-node server supporting virtualisation and data analytics. Another option, the CD270-S4051-X4, provides liquid cooling and is designed for cloud environments.

MSI also launched enterprise and storage server options, including the CX271-S4056, a 2U server offering scalable performance suitable for AI, virtualisation, and cloud-native applications and equipped with up to 24 DDR5 DIMM slots.

Additional products include server boards such as the D4056 DC-MHS M-DNO Type-4 HPM, characterised by high memory capacity, and the D4051 DC-MHS M-DNO Type-2 HPM, which is efficient for latency-sensitive workloads.

The S2301 2U CXL Memory Expansion Server provides an impressive 8TB of memory, designed for data-intensive applications such as In-Memory Database and Electronic Design Automation.

For AI and high-performance computing, MSI's G4101-01 and G4101-03 GPU servers offer extensive support for GPGPU configurations powered by AMD EPYC 9005 Series processors.

MSI's new series of offerings is designed to meet a broad spectrum of data centre needs. They focus on scalability, efficiency, and enhanced connectivity facilitated by cutting-edge AMD technology.
