LG unveils AI Cabin Platform to power smarter cars

Thu, 11th Dec 2025

LG Electronics plans to debut a new in-car artificial intelligence platform at CES 2026, as the Korean group moves deeper into software and computing for next-generation vehicles.

The AI Cabin Platform will appear in a digital cockpit demonstration at LG's private showcase in Las Vegas. The system runs on automotive high-performance computing hardware and uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon Cockpit Elite chip.

LG describes the AI Cabin Platform as a step towards what it calls the AI-defined vehicle, or AIDV. The concept follows the industry trend towards the software-defined vehicle, in which key functions depend on updatable software running on shared computing platforms.

Generative AI in the car

The new platform applies several types of generative AI model inside the car. These include vision language models, large language models and image generation systems.

LG has integrated these models into its in-vehicle infotainment system. The company said this creates a more intelligent and context-aware driving environment inside the cabin.

The system analyses data from cameras inside and outside the vehicle. It tracks the driving environment and the condition of the driver.

In one example, the system can spot another car merging into the lane ahead. If it judges that the driver has not noticed the manoeuvre, it issues a spoken alert. The suggested phrasing is: "A car is merging ahead. Please keep your eyes on the road and drive safely."

The platform also adjusts the entertainment experience. It can customise the look of the infotainment user interface based on conditions such as weather and time of day.

LG said the system can generate background images that match the mood of the drive. It gave an example of a rainy evening, where the music playback screen might show snow between streetlights or a decorated village scene.

The AI can also make spoken suggestions that reflect the setting. One sample prompt is: "It's a beautiful snowy night. Shall I recommend some winter-themed songs?"

On-device processing

The AI Cabin Platform runs its AI models directly on the vehicle's computing hardware. The system uses the processing resources of Qualcomm's Snapdragon Cockpit Elite chipset.

LG said the AI calculations take place entirely inside the vehicle. The system does not need to send data to cloud servers or external data centres.

This approach removes reliance on external network connections. It also reduces exposure to cloud-related security risks.

LG said the design supports real-time and stable operation of AI features. The company also highlighted privacy benefits from keeping sensitive driver and vehicle data on board.

Deepening Qualcomm tie-up

The new platform builds on the existing relationship between LG and Qualcomm Technologies. The two companies worked together on a high-performance computing platform that appeared at CES 2025.

That earlier platform uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon Ride Flex system-on-chip. The design brings infotainment and advanced driver assistance functions into a single control unit.

LG said the consolidated controller handles several vehicle features on one piece of hardware. The company said this can reduce hardware cost and improve performance.

The latest announcement extends the collaboration into generative AI inside the vehicle cabin. The AI Cabin Platform sits on top of the underlying computing platform from Qualcomm.

Eun Seok-hyun, President of the LG Vehicle Solution Company, said the group plans to widen its alliances. "Based on our proven technology and global trust, we will continue expanding partnerships with innovators like Qualcomm Technologies to drive future mobility beyond the SDV to the AIDV," said Eun Seok-hyun, president of the LG Vehicle Solution Company, LG Electronics.

He said LG aims to personalise the experience of travel. "With the AI Cabin Platform, we are creating mobility that not only understands drivers, but responds proactively to their needs and preferences, making every journey uniquely personal," said Eun.

LG will demonstrate the AI Cabin Platform for invited guests during CES. Visitors will see the system inside a digital cockpit mock-up that previews the company's vision for AI-defined vehicles.
