Clinibase named among Fast Company innovation winners

Clinibase has been named to Fast Company's Best Workplaces for Innovators list in the biotech, healthcare, and life sciences category, placing the Melbourne company among 100 businesses recognised across several industries.
Fast Company said the annual list assesses organisations on investment in innovation, internal programmes, and workplace culture. Editors reviewed applications and conducted research before a panel of judges selected the final honourees.
For Clinibase, the recognition follows a period of rapid expansion in headcount and product development. Since 2023, it has grown from about 10 employees to more than 100, while its product team has expanded from one person to a nine-member in-house development group.
Clinibase works in clinical trial recruitment and software, focusing on giving trial sponsors and sites a live view of recruitment performance. Its Clinibase Pulse platform, launched in July 2025, tracks activity across the recruitment process, from outreach and screening to booking and first on-site visits.
The system is intended to replace the delayed manual reporting long common in clinical research. The platform shows where potential participants drop out and where workflow problems emerge while a trial is still under way, rather than after it has finished, according to the company.
Clinibase said the tool has already led to protocol changes during active recruitment on some studies. In a sector where recruitment delays can affect trial timelines, budgets, and the pace at which new treatments move through clinical development, that can be significant.
Workplace model
Clinibase linked the award to how it has organised its teams as it scales. In October 2025, it moved into a larger Melbourne office designed to keep recruitment, product, and leadership staff working closely together.
The office layout supports a low-hierarchy structure in which frontline recruiters feed directly into product and process decisions, the company said. The aim is to ensure software development reflects the needs of staff working most closely with trial participants and day-to-day operational issues.
Chief Executive Officer Pam Ramali said the platform was the result of sustained investment in people and infrastructure rather than a single breakthrough. She said the larger office and low-hierarchy structure, in which frontline recruiters routinely shape product and process decisions, reinforce Clinibase's approach of building technology with input from the people closest to participants.
The award comes as health technology and clinical research companies face pressure to improve efficiency and visibility across study operations. Recruitment remains a persistent weak point in the trial process, with many sponsors still relying on retrospective updates rather than live operational data.
Clinibase positions itself where software and recruitment operations meet. Its model combines internal technology development with hands-on trial recruitment work, giving the company direct access to the operational data and staff feedback used to shape its systems.
Selection process
Fast Company's list includes businesses from sectors such as entertainment, consumer packaged goods, marketing, education, and healthcare. Other honourees this year include Anthropic, Chipotle, and American Express.
The publication said the list is intended to recognise workplaces that create conditions for innovation across all levels of a business rather than limiting it to dedicated research or product teams. That framing has become increasingly common as employers compete for technical talent and seek to show that staff ideas can influence decision-making.
A broader industry trend also underpins that approach. As start-ups mature, investors and customers often look for signs that product development and operational execution can scale together without becoming detached from frontline work.
Fast Company Editor-in-Chief Brendan Vaughan described that cultural focus in the publication's assessment of this year's entries.
"The most innovative workplaces don't simply ask their employees to come up with great ideas; they create the conditions that make great ideas possible. This year's honorees understand that innovation is ultimately a cultural commitment that requires empowering people to think differently, take risks, and turn ideas into actions. We're proud to recognize the companies and executives who are leading by example," he said.
