LG certifies Razer Wolverine V3 for webOS cloud gaming
LG Electronics has launched a certification scheme for third-party game controllers on its smart TV gaming service and named a new Razer pad as the first product to carry the label.
The "Designed for LG Gaming Portal" programme sets technical requirements for controllers that work with LG's cloud gaming interface on webOS-powered televisions. LG said the scheme focuses on latency, connectivity and interoperability between controllers and the LG Gaming Portal environment.
LG announced the initiative alongside Razer at CES in Las Vegas, where the two companies also revealed a new version of Razer's Wolverine controller designed for LG televisions.
The Razer Wolverine V3 Bluetooth for LG Smart TVs is the first device to gain the new certification. LG and Razer described it as the world's fastest gaming controller.
The controller uses ultra-low latency Bluetooth and includes integrated TV controls and what the companies call professional-grade features. LG said the device supports a response time of under 3 milliseconds on compatible LG webOS sets.
The controller is designed for wireless use with LG televisions that run the company's webOS software. It targets players who use cloud gaming services through the LG Gaming Portal rather than a dedicated console or PC.
The LG Gaming Portal aggregates cloud gaming apps on the company's TVs. LG positions the new certification as a way to give gamepad makers a defined set of performance criteria for that environment.
LG has emphasised gaming as a growth area for its premium TV line-up in recent years. The company's 2025 select OLED TV models were the first televisions to support 4K 120Hz HDR cloud gaming via Nvidia's GeForce Now service.
Chris Jo, Head of the webOS Platform Business Centre at the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company, said the new Razer device marks a milestone for the programme.
"We are proud to introduce [the Razer] Wolverine V3 Bluetooth as the first controller certified for LG Gaming Portal," said Chris Jo, head of the webOS Platform Business Centre at the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company. "The new controller will allow gamers to leverage the quick responsiveness and decisive control to keep up with fast-paced action and turn it into a big win on LG Gaming Portal."
Ultra-low latency connectivity has become central to cloud gaming hardware design as services shift more processing into remote data centres. Gamepads in this segment seek to minimise round-trip delay between user input and on-screen action, which involves controller electronics, wireless transmission and TV processing.
The Razer Wolverine V3 Bluetooth adopts Bluetooth connectivity that LG and Razer describe as ultra-low latency. The companies have not detailed the underlying protocol, but they position it as a new benchmark for wireless controllers used with cloud gaming on televisions.
The pad's integrated TV controls allow users to navigate LG's TV interface without a separate remote. This reflects a wider trend in which console-style controllers increasingly act as the main input device for media and gaming on smart TVs.
The certification programme also sets out interoperability expectations. Controllers that carry the "Designed for LG Gaming Portal" label are tested for behaviour with the LG Gaming Portal software environment, including connection flows, button mapping and navigation of game libraries.
LG's webOS platform has run on the company's TVs for more than a decade. It supports LG Channels, the company's free, advertising-supported streaming service, and hosts a growing range of third-party streaming and cloud gaming apps.
The Media Entertainment Solution Company within LG oversees televisions, audio products, displays and the webOS smart TV platform. It also manages LG's broader information technology display portfolio, including gaming monitors and business-focused screens, as well as digital signage products.
Razer positions itself as a lifestyle brand for gamers and offers controllers across console, PC and mobile platforms. The Wolverine line sits in its controller range and targets players who want additional buttons and customisation compared with standard console pads.
Visitors to CES can see demonstrations of the Razer Wolverine V3 Bluetooth with LG Gaming Portal at LG's The Preview space and at Razer's stand. LG said it plans further announcements around gaming on its TV platform as more partners engage with the certification scheme.
