Igel enhances security with Microsoft solutions support

Tue, 5th Nov 2024

IGEL has announced support for three Microsoft solutions, enhancing its secure endpoint operating system capabilities.

The company now supports Microsoft Entra ID's Conditional Access security feature, Microsoft Intune, and Microsoft Edge for Business as its native enterprise-grade browser application. This development provides Linux-based organisations utilising IGEL with increased options for integrating with Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, and Edge browser-based software as a service (SaaS) environments.

IGEL Chief Technology Officer Matthias Haas stated, "Preventing endpoint-based cyberattacks is crucial, and IGEL's Preventative Security Model does a great job with that. Now, with Conditional Access, we're taking it to the next level, helping to prevent other forms of attack."

Conditional Access plays an essential role in enhancing enterprise IT security and mitigating ransomware risks. IGEL's existing Preventative Security Model targets endpoint ransomware, but additional protection is now available against stolen credential attacks. Such attacks often involve using socially engineered usernames and passwords for malicious sign-ins. The support for Microsoft Entra Conditional Access allows IGEL devices to contribute to elevated security decisions, ensuring users are verified against the organisation's IGEL Universal Management Suite infrastructure.

IGEL OS is crafted to secure environments utilising SaaS, desktop as a service (DaaS), virtual desktop infrastructures (VDI), and secure browser setups, lowering total cost of ownership (TCO) and reducing attack surfaces. Recognising diverse organisational needs, IGEL's new capabilities include Microsoft Intune, providing a holistic view across all managed and unmanaged devices within an organisation, including those secured by IGEL OS.

With Microsoft Edge for Business included as a native IGEL application available through the IGEL App Portal, users gain improved browsing experiences and performance with the full suite of Edge browser features.

IGEL CEO Klaus Oestermann, remarked, "IGEL is the best defense against endpoint ransomware attacks and delivers increased business resilience, and this will now be further enhanced for the many customers using Microsoft Entra ID, Intune and/or Edge, due to the tight integration with IGEL."

He added, "Businesses have widely embraced Microsoft solutions, and these new integrations ensure IGEL works seamlessly in Microsoft environments so that organisations benefit from optimal security, manageability, and user experience."

IGEL's announcement of support for Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, and Edge for Business enhances its endpoint operating system's security capabilities. This integration gives organisations improved options for managing security and user experience in Microsoft environments. By addressing endpoint cybersecurity and streamlining device management, IGEL aims to meet the needs of businesses that utilise Microsoft solutions, contributing to a more resilient and secure IT infrastructure.
