FYI, this story is more than a year old

HMD Global has announced the Australian launch in the next line of Nokia 5 series smartphones, the Nokia 5.4.

The Nokia 5.4 is a smartphone engineered for photography, with a 48MP quad camera, an AI-powered night mode, a wide lens, a depth sensor, and a macro lens.

Video recording features a 21:9 wide format and 24fps recording speed (the film industry standard, according to HMD Global). Once finished, the professional colour grading tools allow users to add cinematic effects. For super smooth motion capture, simply dial it up to 60fps video recording.

An app called Family Link helps users control how others use the device by setting 'ground rules', while usage monitoring can help to track how the device is being used.

"With the Nokia 5.4 we wanted to combine high performance with great value and offer more with this phone," says HMD Global chief product officer Juho Sarvikas.

Sarvikas says devices should not only perform well but also be secure - and they should be built to last.

"Being built to last is about much more than craftsmanship, it's the ongoing maintenance and updates. Whether you're powering an electric car or a Nokia handset, understanding that software updates are vital to ensuring your tech's performance is crucial.

The phone, which runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 Mobile Platform and is Android 11 'ready' with three years of monthly security updates and two years of software upgrades, also delivers up to two days of battery life.

In terms of looks, a 6.39" HD+ punch-hole display provides more screen to enjoy whilst staying pocketable and easy to hold. The back features a durable cover.

HMD Global also released the Nokia 8000 4G, a candy bar phone with a polycarbonate shell. The phone features a 2.8" colour screen and preloaded apps including Facebook, Google Maps, and WhatsApp. Other apps are available for download through the KaiStore.

The Nokia 8000 4G also features wifi hotspot and Bluetooth functionality.

The Nokia 5.4 in both Polar Night and Dusk colour options (4/128GB memory configuration), is available in Australia now at JB Hi-Fi and Officeworks for $329 RRP, and it is  coming soon to Harvey Norman and Big W. The in-box additions for Nokia 5.4 also include a pre-applied screen protector and Jelly Clear Case Cover.

The Nokia 8000 4G at $119 RRP is available now and comes in in three gemstone-inspired colours – Onyx and Opal, with the Citrine colour coming soon.
