Databricks partners with NSW to expand AI skills programme

Yesterday

Databricks has announced a partnership with the New South Wales (NSW) State Government to expand its data and artificial intelligence (AI) academy programme.

The initiative aims to upskill over 100 staff members in AI and data analytics within the next year. Upon completion, participants will receive certification and accreditation from Databricks, equipping them to pass on their knowledge within their respective departments.

This expansion comes after a similar initiative was launched with Queensland Government agencies, reflecting Databricks' ongoing efforts to enhance public sector capabilities in leveraging data and AI technologies.

The programme seeks to align with the NSW Digital Strategy by enhancing the digital skills of public sector employees, empowering them to utilise the Databricks Intelligence Platform effectively.

The Databricks Intelligence Platform is designed to democratise access to data and AI, thereby facilitating the use of data for analytics, machine learning, and AI applications. The platform is based on a lakehouse architecture intended to drive innovation, lower operational costs, and reduce risks through a unified governance approach.

Adam Beavis, Vice President and General Manager for Databricks in Australia and New Zealand, stated, "Leading organisations around Australia and the world are using data and AI to improve processes, and more importantly - outcomes. Government departments must have access to the same data intelligence in order to develop innovative solutions that improve the lives of citizens and enable internal teams to work more efficiently."

"With Databricks' leading data and AI academy programme, we'll support the NSW State Government to continue its innovation journey and empower public sector staff to identify use cases for data and AI that can benefit people all across NSW," he added, highlighting the potential benefits of the programme for citizens and government operations alike.

The partnership between Databricks and the NSW State Government reflects an ongoing effort to strengthen data and AI capabilities within the public sector. By equipping government employees with advanced skills, the initiative supports broader digital transformation goals and aligns with the state's commitment to leveraging technology for improved services and efficiency. As similar programmes expand, the focus remains on building a workforce prepared to navigate and implement AI-driven solutions across various government functions.
