Commvault launches Cloud Cleanroom for cyber attack recovery

Wed, 1st May 2024

Commvault is launching a pioneering overhaul in cleanroom technology. Traditional cleanrooms play a crucial part in secure cyber recovery scenarios, but they are often resource-exhaustive. This requires companies to maintain duplicate environments for critical applications across all servers and locations, a cost that is out of reach for many organizations. Commvault is poised to address these challenges through its groundbreaking Cloud Cleanroom Recovery offering.

The Cloud Cleanroom Recovery offering marks the commencement of a new era in cleanroom technology, reshaping conventional recovery management. This transformation includes how companies recover a clean copy of their data after a cyberattack, where they recover, which companies are eligible for the service, and how often recovery testing can be done. The newly introduced cleanroom recovery can be tested as frequently as on a monthly basis, offering Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and Chief Information Officers (CIOs) the assurance of a clean recovery if the need arises.

A stark departure from the conventional concept, Commvault has rethought the cleanroom from the roots. First, the cleanroom recovery is extended to support Commvault's SaaS customers, making the technology accessible to companies of all sizes. Second, the cleanroom is hosted in the cloud, designed to orchestrate recovery into a clean, isolated location in Microsoft Azure. This service can be provided on-demand, with charges applicable only when it is used. Third, it grants organizations the convenience to frequently test their cyber recovery plans around their IT infrastructure, an advantage that promises to be a game-changer as the threat from cyberattacks escalates.

"With disaster recovery, testing your recovery strategy once a year was fine. Now, with AI-driven attacks, threat vectors change by the hour," notes Brian Brockway, CTO of Commvault, stressing the importance of not only frequently testing your recovery strategy but also ensuring there is a clean place to recover in the cloud.

Cleanroom Recovery also provides numerous benefits. It has been designed for simplicity, with users being able to swiftly set up a cleanroom-on-demand in Microsoft Azure and recover applications and the corresponding data with ease. The solution is secure as it has been designed to be untainted since it does not exist until the organization needs it. In addition, the service is intelligent: it is AI-enabled which allows customers to rapidly identify the last clean recovery point.

This innovative offering by Commvault is being hailed as a significant advancement in cybersecurity management. Representatives from Microsoft, Pure Storage, and Enterprise Strategy Group all praise the launch of Commvault Cloud Cleanroom Recovery as a strong move in the fight against ransomware and other cyber threats. Commvault's customers, including American Pacific Mortgage, Emerson, and Kelyn Technologies US, are also speaking of the immense value addition and sense of security offered by the new solution.

The recent introduction of Cleanroom Recovery as part of Commvault Cloud illustrates the company's progress in providing a robust, secure solution for cyber threats. Several features of the service are already available to customers, showcasing Commvault's commitment to staying ahead in ensuring cyber resilience amidst rapidly evolving cyber threats.
