Cohesity appoints Nigel Lee to lead APJ technical sales
Cohesity has appointed Nigel Lee as Technical Sales Leader for Asia Pacific and Japan, based in Singapore.
He will oversee technical sales strategy, the pre-sales organisation and solution engineering across the region, reporting to Mark Nutt, Senior Vice President & General Manager, International, as Cohesity increases its investment in Asia Pacific and Japan.
The new regional leadership role focuses on technical engagement with customers and partners, placing Lee at the centre of Cohesity's push to expand the use of its data security and cyber resilience platform across Asia Pacific and Japan.
Lee brings 29 years of experience in pre-sales, sales engineering and go-to-market work across Asia Pacific. Most recently, he was Director of Data Storage Solutions, Asia Pacific at Lenovo, where he led the regional business and changed its route to market.
Before Lenovo, he held senior regional and global roles at NetApp. His experience in enterprise sales and customer engagement in complex markets was a factor in the appointment.
Regional focus
Cohesity is placing greater emphasis on Asia Pacific and Japan as it expands its international business. The new role points to a sharper focus on technical sales support at a time when businesses in the region face cyber security risks, compliance demands and closer scrutiny of data management.
Technical sales teams often bridge product, sales and customer requirements, especially in sectors with long procurement cycles and detailed technical reviews. In that context, Lee's remit spans both the internal pre-sales structure and the external engagement needed to support channel partners and end customers.
Mark Nutt described the company's view of the region and Lee's role in its next phase of expansion.
"APJ is a strategically important region for Cohesity, and Nigel's leadership, passion and deep expertise make him exceptionally well positioned to lead our technical sales organisation," said Mark Nutt, Senior Vice President & General Manager, International, Cohesity. "As we continue to invest in the region, his ability to align technical strategy with the rapidly developing customer requirements caused by the ever-changing threat and compliance landscape will be critical to accelerating our growth and ensuring our customers' ongoing business resilience."
Career background
Lee's career has focused on storage, infrastructure and data-related technology roles. His experience spans regional leadership and cross-border operations, a background likely to matter in a market as varied as Asia Pacific and Japan, where customer demand, regulation and channel structures differ widely between countries.
He holds an Executive MBA from Kellogg-HKUST and a Bachelor of Computer Science. That combination of business and technical qualifications is common among senior executives leading pre-sales and solution engineering functions, which require both commercial judgement and a detailed understanding of technology deployment.
His appointment also comes as many technology suppliers reshape regional teams around data security and resilience, rather than treating backup, storage and recovery as separate categories. Vendors increasingly argue that customers want more unified systems as cyber attacks become more frequent and the operational impact of outages grows.
In his first comments on the appointment, Lee pointed to those market pressures and to the growing role of artificial intelligence in how organisations handle data.
"Across the region, organisations are under increasing pressure to secure, manage, and unlock value from their data as AI adoption accelerates and cyber threats evolve. Cohesity is uniquely positioned to simplify this complexity through a unified, AI-driven data security platform," said Nigel Lee, Technical Sales Leader, Asia Pacific and Japan at Cohesity. "Having spent my career scaling organisations and embedding solution expertise early in the customer journey, I'm excited to join at this pivotal time and look forward to working with our teams, partners, and customers to drive meaningful, outcome-led growth."
Cohesity serves customers in more than 140 countries and says a large share of the Global 500 uses its products. For its international business, appointments such as this suggest where management sees scope to deepen local coverage and build more direct technical relationships with regional buyers and partners.
