Amber Technology has introduced DPA Microphones' 6388 CORE+ Headset Microphone to Australia and New Zealand, where it will be sold through Amber Technology and its dealer network.

The product is aimed at live and professional audio settings that require clear speech pickup and control over background sound. It is positioned for theatre, live performance, broadcast, sports, houses of worship and corporate events.

The 6388 CORE+ is a supercardioid headset microphone built around a new asymmetrical capsule design. According to DPA, the design shifts the capsule's acoustical axis, making the microphone less sensitive to exact placement and helping maintain consistent sound if the headset moves during use.

This updates DPA's earlier 4088 directional headset design. The new model also uses the company's patent-pending CORE+ technology, along with a tightly controlled proximity effect, to support stable tonal balance and voice isolation in difficult acoustic conditions.

Product design

Unlike many directional headset microphones, the 6388 CORE+ allows the boom to be switched for wear on either the left or right side. Users can place the microphone discreetly beside or slightly behind the mouth, a setup intended to reduce plosives and unwanted noise without affecting tonal accuracy.

The microphone also maintains directionality across frequencies for predictable off-axis rejection. In practical terms, this is designed to reduce stage bleed and improve gain before feedback on loud stages, while still handling both soft and powerful vocal delivery.

Amber is offering the headset with a range of options for different production setups. It comes in multiple colours, sizes and termination choices, and includes modular connection options for compatibility with major wireless systems.

The frame is based on DPA's Act Headset Frame, which the manufacturer says is designed to provide a secure fit over long periods of professional use.

Market focus

The launch reflects continued demand in Australia and New Zealand for specialist audio equipment across live events, broadcast production and worship settings. Distributors in these sectors have increasingly focused on tools that can work reliably in venues with high sound pressure levels and changing stage conditions.

DPA also highlighted durability as part of the headset's design. The 6388 CORE+ carries an IP58 rating for resistance to dust and humidity, aimed at productions where microphones are exposed to sweat, movement and variable environmental conditions.

Helga Somava, director of product management at DPA Microphones, outlined the company's view of the product's role in those settings. "Directional headset microphones are used in the most demanding environments, where high ambient sound pressure, stage noise, and the need for high gain-before-feedback put extreme pressure on performance, while expectations for natural sound, intelligibility, comfort and ease of use remain unchanged," she said.

Somava added: "The 6388 CORE+ moves beyond these compromises to deliver exceptional performance across sound engineers' needs. The combination of an optimised acoustic design with CORE+ technology, highly controlled proximity, and directional response helps deliver DPA's renowned natural and authentic sound with exceptional consistency."

Pricing

In Australia, the recommended retail price is AUD $1,595. In New Zealand, the recommended retail price is NZD $1,935.

DPA Microphones makes condenser microphones and digital wireless systems for professional audio use, with products sold into live sound, film, installation, recording, theatre and broadcast. Its research, development and manufacturing operations are based in Denmark and Austria.

Amber Technology distributes broadcast, film, recording, live production, musical instrument and audiovisual products across Australia and New Zealand. The 6388 CORE+ headset is now available in both markets through its dealer network.
