Amber Technology launches Sonance VX52R UTL in Australia

Amber Technology has introduced the Sonance VX52R UTL Ultra Thin-Line architectural speaker in Australia, expanding Sonance's Visual Experience Series in the local market.
The model is designed for projects with restricted ceiling depth. It has a mounting depth of 35.7 mm and targets installations where standard architectural speakers may not fit.
That places it in a part of the market shaped as much by building constraints as by audio specifications. Integrators working on apartment blocks, high-rise developments, concrete structures, office retrofits, and residential renovations often face shallow ceiling cavities or framing limits that narrow their in-ceiling speaker options.
The VX52R UTL is a 6-inch round speaker that succeeds Sonance's earlier VP Series ultra-thin model. It extends the Visual Experience range into projects that require a shallower form factor while maintaining the design language of the wider series.
Space limits
According to the product details, the speaker fits within 2.5-inch metal framing used in concrete ceiling applications. This makes it relevant to multi-dwelling and commercial developments, where services, slab design, and fit-out restrictions can leave little room for conventional in-ceiling hardware.
Its quoted frequency response is 55 Hz to 20 kHz. The model uses a 5.25-inch polypropylene woofer and a 0.75-inch silk dome tweeter, along with Sonance's CDX crossover and VX Sinusoidal Waveguide.
These components are intended to align the speaker with the wider VX Series. It is also compatible with existing 6-inch VX accessories, including paintable grille options such as MicroTrim, Trimless, and Sonance TRUFIG flush-mounted configurations.
That compatibility matters for installers seeking a uniform visual finish across mixed environments. In larger projects, some rooms or corridors may allow standard-depth speakers while others require shallow-depth models. Matching trim options help avoid visible differences from one space to another.
Installer focus
The product has an 8-ohm impedance and 89 dB sensitivity, placing it within the range commonly used for distributed audio systems in residential and commercial settings. Amber Technology is positioning the model through its authorised dealer and integration partner network rather than as a mass retail launch.
That approach reflects how architectural audio is typically bought and specified in Australia. Products in this category are often selected during design, fit-out, or renovation work, with installers balancing acoustic needs against structural conditions, aesthetics, and access to compatible accessories.
Alberto Zamudio, General Manager, Residential Install, Amber Technology, said the product gives integrators more flexibility in projects where space is limited.
"The Sonance VX Ultra Thin-Line gives integrators more flexibility to deliver high-performance architectural audio in projects where space is at a premium. Its shallow mounting depth handles applications that can be difficult to address with conventional architectural speakers, while maintaining the design consistency and installation approach of the wider VX Series.
"For our integration partners, that means fewer compromises when working with concrete construction, shallow ceiling cavities, and other challenging environments. It's a practical addition to the Sonance portfolio that helps integrators tailor audio solutions to the architecture of each project."
Broader market
Sonance has long been associated with concealed and architectural speaker systems, having built its business around in-wall and in-ceiling formats. The addition of a thinner VX model shows how speaker makers are adapting products for modern construction methods, especially in urban residential developments where available cavity space can be reduced by concrete slabs, dense service runs, and slimmer ceiling assemblies.
For distributors such as Amber Technology, these products sit at the intersection of consumer electronics, building design, and specialist installation. The company distributes equipment across broadcast, recording, live production, hi-fi, and residential and commercial installation markets in Australia and New Zealand.
The VX52R UTL is available in Australia through Amber Technology's authorised dealer and integration partner network.
