Veeam creates new regional role to accelerate cloud growth

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Veeam is ramping up its cloud push with the creation of a regional role to accelerate growth for the vendor's cloud business.

Asanga Wanigatunga has been appointed as senior director for Asia Pacific and Japan charged with driving cloud adoption and growth amongst Veeam's local service providers and customers.

The company is already clocking up strong growth in its cloud offerings. In Q1, it recorded a 24% increase year on year in the number of cloud transactions across Australia and New Zealand, with cloud revenue up 59%.

Across Asia, the company recorded a 59% increase in cloud revenue, which includes disaster recovery-as-a-service and backup-as-a-service and is enabled by Veeam Cloud and Service Providers. Cloud transactions were up 38% year on year for Asia.

Wanigatunga, who was most recently VMware's director for end-user computing cloud services for APJ, says the cloud represents an 'enormous' opportunity for organisations to provide always-on services to customers and employees.

Paul Mattes, Veeam Global Cloud Group vice president, says Wanigatunga's extensive experience in leading teams underscores the company's commitment to helping organisations adopt a multi-cloud strategy to deliver availability for customers and partners.

Prior to joining VMware in 2010, Wanigatunga was with Symantec. His new role sees him based in Sydney where Veeam says he will be working closely with channel partners to meet Veeam's revenue goals.

"I'm excited to help Veeam Cloud and Service Providers and our channel partners with the architecture to grow their businesses and deliver world-class services to our joint customers," Wanigatunga says.
