Upcover gains global recognition for AI-driven business insurance

Wed, 19th Nov 2025

Australian insurtech Upcover has been highlighted in a new global industry report for its adoption of artificial intelligence in commercial insurance.

The company was featured in the latest Global InsurTech Report from Gallagher, which spotlights firms driving advances in underwriting, distribution, and risk management via AI and data-driven platforms.

AI investment surge

The Gallagher report states that 74 per cent of worldwide insurtech funding in the third quarter of 2025 targeted AI-focused companies. According to the report, this reflects sector-wide momentum towards automation, decision support, and predictive analytics. Upcover is identified as one of few local firms building fully digital business insurance platforms capable of instant quoting and embedded policy servicing.

Market recognition

Upcover's inclusion in the Global InsurTech Report follows its earlier listing in CB Insights' Insurtech 50, which recognised private insurtech startups with growth potential. These accolades have increased the international visibility of the Sydney-based firm as it expands its digital-first commercial insurance operations in Australia and New Zealand.

"Being recognised in Gallagher's Global InsurTech Report is another validation of the work we are doing to bring commercial insurance into the digital age," said Skye Theodorou, CEO and co-founder, Upcover.

Theodorou said the company's platform is designed for both speed and effectiveness. "Our AI-powered platform is not just about faster quoting, it is about smarter coverage. We are helping thousands of businesses find the right insurance in minutes, while supporting underwriters with deeper, data-driven insight."

"One in three businesses that quote with us take insurance from us, because we are offering coverage that actually fits their needs," said Theodorou.

Product expansion

Upcover has launched sector-specific products to serve markets with changing needs, including what it says is Australia's first fintech insurance vertical. This offering supports financial technology businesses dealing with regulatory complexities, and provides custom access to global underwriters and advisory expertise. The company also introduced a digital distribution pathway for cyber insurance, partnering with Coalition to allow businesses to secure tailored cyber policies online. These moves aim to address persistent cyber risk and the prevalence of underinsurance within the local SME sector.

Platform reach

Upcover states it supplies more than 60,000 businesses through arrangements with over 40 insurers and underwriters. Its platform delivers instant quoting, automated underwriting, and digital policy servicing, replacing traditional broker-led models. The company reports that it has now served over one per cent of the entire Australian business sector since its launch nearly three years ago.

"The momentum we are seeing internationally shows that AI is transforming commercial insurance faster than anyone anticipated," said Anish Sinha, co-founder and COO, Upcover.

"We are proud to be one of the few Australian companies recognised on the global stage for leading that change. Our mission remains the same: to make business insurance accessible, transparent and truly digital for every SME and emerging enterprise," said Sinha.

Industry outlook

The Gallagher report notes commercial insurance is undergoing rapid change, fuelled by over USD $470 million in venture funding for commercial-focused insurtech companies in Q3 2025. The report highlights the increasing role of AI in underwriting, pricing, and risk assessment, all areas where Upcover has focused its technology development.

The company has devoted its recent Series A funding round, which raised USD $19 million, to broadening its platform, expanding into new verticals, and investing in AI-powered infrastructure. Its technical roadmap includes extending digital insurance solutions to higher complexity industry sectors and larger enterprise clients.
