Tanium recognised as Sample Vendor in 2024 Gartner Hype Cycle

Tue, 20th Aug 2024

Tanium has been recognised as a Sample Vendor for Autonomous Endpoint Management (AEM) in the 2024 Gartner Hype Cycle for IT Management Intelligence. This acknowledgement stems from the company’s efforts to integrate AI and machine learning within its endpoint management solutions.

Autonomous Endpoint Management combines the capabilities of unified endpoint management and digital employee experience tools. This integration relies on AI and machine learning to expedite processes such as endpoint patching, configuration, and experience management. Presenting these capabilities as transformative, Gartner highlights the potential of Tanium's AEM to enhance compliance, employee experience, and productivity by reducing digital friction.

Discussing the benefits of their AEM solution, Gartner notes, "Tanium AEM allows leaders to reduce IT overhead through automatic resolution of issues that disrupt and impede employee productivity. It also helps maintain endpoint configuration standards according to various baselines, reduce cyber risks through automated patch and configuration management, and automate software and configuration deployment based on specified policies."

Built on Tanium’s existing XEM platform, Tanium AEM aims to provide organisations with real-time data and insights to automate routine tasks, streamline threat remediation, and offer personalised insights and recommendations. Matt Quinn, Chief Technology Officer at Tanium, expressed optimism about the potential impact of their AEM solutions: "The addition of Tanium AEM helps customers achieve unprecedented levels of automation, efficiency, and visibility across their endpoints."

The 2024 Gartner Hype Cycle report has given AEM an Emerging rating. According to Gartner, organisations are increasingly relying on AEM solutions to alleviate pressures on IT teams who are managing endpoint devices, operating systems, and applications. Increased AI and machine learning capabilities are pushing technology vendors to accelerate their development and release timelines, creating a challenging landscape for current IT infrastructure to keep up. Gartner elaborates that this situation results in overwhelming software updates, increased vulnerabilities, compromised technology stability, and degraded digital employee experiences.

Since its introduction at Tanium’s Converge event, the company has introduced several innovations targeting autonomous platform enhancements. These include Tanium Guardian, Tanium Automate, and a joint solution with Microsoft Copilot for Security. Tanium Guardian offers critical, up-to-date information and recommendations on emerging vulnerabilities, aiming to help organisations pre-emptively tackle issues, optimise efficiency, and prevent or mitigate negative impacts. Conceptualised by Tanium’s seasoned security engineers, it goes beyond traditional threat intelligence to provide valuable insights on zero-day and emerging threats.

Tanium Automate is designed to streamline mission-critical but repetitive tasks through no-code automation and workflow orchestration builders. Commercial cloud customers can now use this tool to create scalable playbooks for executing endpoint actions in series. This solution reflects Tanium’s commitment to helping organisations achieve efficiency through automation.

The collaborative solution with Microsoft Copilot for Security leverages Tanium's real-time endpoint data and intelligence to enhance the AI-powered product’s functionality. Aimed at security teams, this solution improves the ability to respond quickly to threats, process signals at machine speed, and evaluate and act on risk exposure promptly.

The Gartner Hype Cycle provides a visual representation of the maturity and adoption of various technologies and their potential relevance in solving business problems and exploiting new opportunities. Tanium’s inclusion in the 2024 release signals the growing importance of autonomous endpoint management in addressing contemporary IT challenges.
