Tally Group powers AUD $1 billion digital shift for SEC sites

Fri, 4th Jul 2025

Tally Group has launched a digital retail platform for the State Electricity Commission (SEC) to provide billing and customer experience services across more than 4,000 Victorian government sites.

The system now supports a wide range of public infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, councils, and public lighting, enabling the SEC to manage its commercial and industrial (C&I) electricity customers through an integrated digital solution. The C&I segment accounts for around 5% of Victoria's total electricity consumption.

Deployment details

The deployment is anchored by Tally Group's cloud-based Tally+LM platform, incorporating a self-service portal and advanced features such as Tariff Optimisation and Behavioural Demand Response. These tools are intended to facilitate smarter grid interactions and aid the transition towards fully electric infrastructure across government-managed assets.

Tally Group was appointed as the SEC's Customer Technology and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) partner following a formal procurement process. The company has now delivered the platform on schedule to support the SEC's public sector energy customers and related infrastructure.

Support for clean energy shift

The adoption of the new digital platform is described as a significant step in the SEC's renewable energy investment programme valued at AUD $1 billion. By modernising the management of government sites' electricity consumption, the system forms part of broader efforts to facilitate Victoria's clean energy transition and increase the use of all-electric services.

"This is exactly the kind of transformation our technology was built for - to help make renewable energy more accessible and accelerate the shift to all-electric homes and businesses," said Timothy Szakacs, Executive General Manager, ANZ at Tally Group.

Szakacs further commented: "From day one, this project has been a collaborative effort, and we're incredibly proud to have delivered a system that meets the SEC's ambitions and the expectations of all Victorians."

Platform capabilities

The Tally Group platform enables features such as two-way energy flows and the integration of decentralised energy sources, fitting the requirements of a modern electricity market. The foundation is designed to accommodate developments in dynamic tariffs and energy-as-a-service models, reflecting the shift towards flexible and customer-oriented energy solutions.

The deployment also aims to reduce operational costs for the SEC while equipping the public utility with tools to help participating sites reduce energy costs, optimise usage patterns, and engage with the grid in a more sustainable manner. This approach supports the state's objective to deliver clean and affordable energy to all Victorians by leveraging digital technology to streamline government energy operations.

Collaboration and delivery

The rollout of the digital retail platform met its targeted timelines under significant public scrutiny. Tally Group, headquartered in Australia, has provided the system as a scalable and adaptable solution capable of supporting future enhancements as Victoria's energy policies and market needs evolve.

The implementation of Tally+LM and associated digital tools aligns with efforts to enhance the efficiency and transparency of government energy consumption, as well as to provide public sector organisations with access to data-driven options for cost and emissions management.

The platform is now live across the state, positioning the SEC to deliver its clean energy mandate and manage the transition to renewables infrastructure for government-managed sites.
