Siemens & BILT launch immersive training tools on Apple Vision Pro
Tue, 23rd Apr 2024

Siemens and BILT, creators of 3D Intelligent Instructions, have teamed up to transform instruction manuals into immersive spatial models which can run on Apple Vision Pro. These models will act as step-by-step guides for training electricians, a tool necessary to meet the increasing demand for skilled tradespeople.

Siemens has begun making mobile-guided installations available for their Smart Infrastructures Class 14 NEMA motor starter, an industrial process motor controller, and the P5 Power Distribution Panel, which are used in commercial construction applications. The devices offer a life-like digital twin on Apple Vision Pro's ultra-high-resolution display to visually guide users through assembly instructions, combining elements of both real and digital worlds. Through Apple Vision Pro, users can interact with each element of the product using natural gestures and enlarge or minimise parts for better visibility and understanding.

Andreas Matth, CEO of Electrical Products at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, describes this enhancing tool as transforming the educational experience. He said, "The ability to pick a digital representation of electrical equipment and work with it in the physical space in front of you [provides] a safer, low-cost, and innovative way of learning."

To further extend this initiative, BILT will become the latest addition to Siemens Xcelerator Ecosystem and Marketplace, a robust platform and ecosystem dedicated to providing solutions to industrial clients worldwide. Becoming part of Siemens Xcelerator signifies BILT's availability as a turnkey solution to accelerate digital transformation and learning on a larger scale.

Peter Koerte, Chief Technology Officer at Siemens, said, "Closing the skills gap and empowering the next generation of electricians is what we at Siemens also aim for. By partnering with innovative companies like BILT, we are revolutionising the learning experience. We are excited to welcome BILT as the newest partner in our Siemens Xcelerator ecosystem, further expanding our transformative workforce offerings together."

Siemens plans to introduce more products for BILT on Apple Vision Pro in the future, supplementing its extensive library of mobile instructions. This will include its smart home energy management portfolio of products, InHab, and power distribution switchboards designed for electric vehicle charging applications.

Nate Henderson, Chairman and CEO of BILT, commented, "They’re [Siemens] making it possible for apprentices and new electricians to upskill faster, install with confidence, and follow safety guidelines more easily. BILT for Apple Vision Pro enables them to provide tactical and intuitive training that fits the needs of a new generation of learners."

Visitors at the Hannover Messe tradeshow, Germany's largest industrial event, from April 22nd - 23rd, 2024, can experience a BILT demo on Apple Vision Pro at the Siemens booth. The demo will specifically illustrate a guided installation of a Siemens Class 14 NEMA motor starter and P5 Power Distribution Panel as part of the Siemens Xcelerator showcase.

The collaboration between Siemens and BILT marks a significant advancement in transforming traditional instruction manuals into immersive digital experiences for electricians. By leveraging Apple Vision Pro's capabilities, users can now access step-by-step guides in a spatial and interactive format, revolutionising the learning and training process in the field of electrical engineering. As Siemens continues to expand its product offerings on the BILT platform, this partnership holds promise for bridging the skills gap and empowering the next generation of electricians with innovative, hands-on learning solutions.
