Ricoh again named Leader in IDC high-speed inkjet study

Thu, 26th Feb 2026

Ricoh has been placed in the Leaders category for a third time in IDC's MarketScape assessment of worldwide high-speed inkjet vendors.

The IDC MarketScape: Worldwide High-Speed Inkjet 2025 Vendor Assessment positions suppliers using qualitative and quantitative criteria. It presents a graphical view of vendors' positions and compares product and service offerings alongside strategy and market success factors.

IDC highlighted Ricoh's global reach and track record for reliability, as well as technical service and what it described as consistent investment in innovation. The report cited advances in printhead accuracy, job automation and sustainability features, and noted a complementary portfolio of toner-based presses.

The recognition comes as print manufacturers and in-house print operations continue to weigh investments in inkjet and toner systems, alongside workflow software and service arrangements. Vendor selection in this segment often hinges on uptime, service coverage, automation features and the ability to manage a range of applications at scale.

Services focus

Ricoh described the IDC position as validation of its market approach, emphasising technology and services tailored to specific customer environments.

"We were delighted to be recognised as a Leader in the IDC MarketScape," said Koji Miyao, President, Ricoh Graphic Communications & Senior Corporate Officer, Ricoh Company.

"We are focused on enabling clients to best position their operations to successfully manage the developing print production landscape. Our services, solutions, and own-developed technologies are expertly shaped for each operation in response to their individual needs. We collaborate and co-innovate every step of the way to support clients as they evolve their operations, expand their services, and grow their business."

The IDC MarketScape report is part of a wider programme of vendor assessments used across information and communications technology markets. The methodology benchmarks suppliers on current execution and longer-term strategy, giving buyers a structured way to compare strengths and weaknesses.

IDC view

IDC Research Director Tim Greene linked Ricoh's ranking to a combination of product development and operational delivery.

"Ricoh is a Leader in the IDC MarketScape for WW High Speed Inkjet as the company combines innovation, performance, and execution, and supports customers in their high speed inkjet initiatives," said Greene. "Ricoh is very strong in some of the key areas that customers are looking for in a partnership, such as equipment capabilities from advanced print head and drying technologies to service and support."

The assessment also reflects how high-speed inkjet has become a strategic segment for vendors serving commercial print providers, direct mail specialists, book printers and corporate print operations. These environments typically demand fast turnaround and predictable output, with growing attention on automation in job handling and production management.

Ricoh operates globally, supplying print and imaging products alongside digital services. Headquartered in Tokyo, it serves customers in around 200 countries and regions. For the financial year ended March 2025, Ricoh Group reported worldwide sales of 2,527 billion yen, or approximately USD $16.8 billion.

IDC also cited Ricoh for maintaining a portfolio spanning both inkjet and toner-based production presses. That mix remains common in production print, where providers match device types to job characteristics such as run length, substrate requirements and finishing needs.

Ricoh expects its combination of services, workflow approaches and in-house developed technologies to remain central as print production requirements evolve.
