Oracle Database now available on Google Cloud in Melbourne

Thu, 23rd Oct 2025

Oracle and Google Cloud have announced the launch of Oracle Database@Google Cloud in Australia, making Oracle Database services now available within Google Cloud's Melbourne region for local enterprises.

Organisations in Australia are now able to run Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure within Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) at the Australia-Southeast 2 (Melbourne) Google Cloud datacentre. This service allows customers to combine data management using Oracle databases with artificial intelligence and analytics capabilities provided by Google Cloud services, including Gemini and Vertex AI.

With this development, businesses can integrate their Oracle enterprise data with Google Cloud's AI tools to support faster insights, improved productivity, and compliance with data hosting residency requirements. Customers are also enabled to build new cloud applications using Oracle AI Database or migrate existing applications to Oracle AI Database services on OCI directly in Google Cloud datacentres.

Customer demand

Stephen Bovis, Regional Managing Director, Australia and New Zealand, Oracle, commented:

"Oracle Database@Google Cloud in Australia will support the strong demand we're seeing from customers for multicloud solutions. This gives our mutual customers in Australia the ability to seamlessly combine the high performance of Oracle AI Database with Google Cloud's native AI and analytics services and accelerate innovation."

Paul Migliorini, Vice President, Australia & New Zealand, Google Cloud, also highlighted the joint offering's potential to drive cloud adoption and AI-based innovation. He stated:

"By bringing together Oracle's database and applications with Google Cloud's AI platform services, we are empowering our customers to rapidly accelerate their cloud journey, unlock new AI-driven innovation, and thrive in a multicloud world."

Daphne Chung, Research Director for Cloud Services and Software Research at IDC Asia/Pacific, observed broader shifts in enterprise cloud strategies, saying:

"We're seeing a real shift as organisations move away from relying on a single cloud provider. The rapid growth of multicloud databases shows just how strongly organisations value flexibility and scale, especially as hyperscalers expand capacity. What makes this moment different is the ability to connect powerful AI models - whether Gemini, ChatGPT, or Grok - directly to existing data. That's not just about efficiency; it's about giving customers genuine choice and unlocking new ways to get value from the cloud for years to come."

Service details

The first service offered via Oracle Database@Google Cloud in Australia is the Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure. This supports Oracle Exadata X11M and leverages Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), aiming to deliver increased performance for AI, analytics, and online transaction processing workloads. Additionally, customers can access Oracle AI Database 26ai, which includes features like Oracle AI Vector Search and JSON Relational Duality Views, as well as more than 300 enhancements focused on making AI integration with enterprise data more straightforward.

Oracle AI Vector Search allows for combined search of documents, images, and other unstructured data alongside business data without duplication. Meanwhile, JSON Relational Duality Views enable developers to use both JSON and relational models for the same data, removing the limitations of singular data modelling.

Partner marketplace model

Alongside the launch, Oracle and Google Cloud have introduced a new partner marketplace sales model. Partners who are part of both the Google Cloud Partner Advantage programme and Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) can now purchase Oracle Database@Google Cloud through the Google Cloud Marketplace and resell the offering to end customers. This approach allows partners to integrate Oracle Database capabilities into their own multicloud and AI-focused solutions.

Matt Coates, Technology Lead for Accenture in Australia and New Zealand, noted the implications for local IT strategy and innovation:

"As a strategic partner to both Oracle and Google Cloud, we are helping organisations in Australia embrace a true multicloud approach to modernise their IT foundations and accelerate innovation with data and AI. The launch of Oracle Database@Google Cloud in Australia comes at a time when organisations are accelerating their multicloud strategies, offering a powerful opportunity to deliver more integrated, data-driven solutions."

Expansion and disaster recovery

The Melbourne launch adds to existing Google Cloud regions offering Oracle Database@Google Cloud, which include Tokyo, Frankfurt, Montreal, London, Iowa, Ashburn, and Salt Lake City. Disaster recovery solutions for critical workloads are already live in Ashburn and London, with plans for further regions such as Mexico, Osaka, Mumbai, Delhi, Sydney, Milan, Turin, Toronto, and São Paulo, as well as enhanced disaster recovery offerings for Frankfurt, Melbourne, and Milan.

With the expansion, both companies aim to provide customers in Australia with local residency for sensitive data, higher resilience, and enhanced options for modernising IT architecture whilst supporting national and regional regulatory requirements.
