Thu, 18th Jul 2024

New Relic has published its third annual environmental, social, and governance (ESG) Impact Report. The report showcases the company's advancements in ESG strategy alongside its ongoing growth and transformation. Among the highlighted achievements is the expansion of the New Relic for Students program, concluding the year with over 1,400 students.

"Our commitment to ESG principles is integral to our desire to build performant software and a better world, and we share these principles with a growing number of leading enterprises we work with on a daily basis," said New Relic CEO Ashan Willy. "I am incredibly proud of our team's achievements and remain committed to fostering a technology ecosystem that grows ethically and sustainably."

In the realm of environmental sustainability, New Relic has completed a migration to more energy-efficient cloud technologies using Amazon Web Services (AWS) Graviton processors. The move from traditional data centres to the public cloud is part of New Relic's broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions and energy consumption. The company also reported achieving 100% renewable energy use across all its offices, accomplished through the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) and Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs). Additionally, New Relic has offset 100% of its Scope 3 employee work-from-home electricity consumption and Scope 1 emissions by purchasing EACs and carbon removal credits from Trees for Global Benefits respectively.

On the security front, New Relic has adopted the CIS 18 Controls Framework. The framework comprises a comprehensive set of best practices for securing IT systems and data. According to the company, this adoption will allow New Relic to better measure the maturity of its security posture, prioritize improvements, and proactively mitigate emerging threats.

In employee empowerment initiatives, New Relic has introduced disability inclusion training sessions. These sessions are designed to equip managers with the knowledge and skills required to support employees with disabilities. Key areas covered include performance management, ensuring confidentiality, facilitating accommodation requests, and recognising barriers.

Regarding technological access, New Relic aims to democratize its tools for a broad spectrum of developers. The company has reached nearly 620,000 lifetime free tier users, indicating its commitment to making observability an integral part of the developer toolkit. Nonprofit organizations also benefit from New Relic's support, receiving three standard users and a terabyte of Data Plus per month at no cost, enhancing their access to powerful observability tools. The New Relic for Students program continues to grow, now enabling over 1,400 students to access essential observability tools for their academic growth.

The report underscores New Relic's activities and achievements in its ESG strategy, reflecting its ongoing commitment to sustainability, security, employee empowerment, and technological inclusivity.
