McAfee launches Australia’s first AI Deepfake Detector on Lenovo
McAfee has introduced Australia's first AI-powered Deepfake Detector to combat scams and identify AI-generated misinformation and deepfakes. This technology is now available exclusively on select Lenovo AI PCs.
As AI becomes more prevalent, deepfakes and scams are increasingly challenging to detect. With 68% of Australians expressing greater concern about deepfakes than a year ago, McAfee's new Deepfake Detector aims to help users make informed decisions about the credibility of content they encounter online.
McAfee Deepfake Detector utilises advanced AI detection models to identify AI-generated audio within videos directly on Lenovo AI PCs. This approach ensures that Australians can assess the reliability of content without compromising their privacy, as the analysis is conducted on the device itself.
The company has also launched the McAfee Smart AI Hub, an online resource where consumers can submit suspicious videos for analysis by McAfee's deepfake detection technology. This initiative aims to educate the public about deepfakes and AI-driven scams while allowing consumers to contribute to the fight against misinformation.
"Knowledge is power, and this has never been truer than in the AI-driven world we're living in today," said Tyler McGee, Head of APAC at McAfee. "No more wondering, do Dr Karl or Kochie really want to sell me that, was Richard Wilkins really arrested, or did Queensland Premier Steve Miller actually say these words? The answers are provided to you automatically and within seconds with McAfee Deepfake Detector."
McAfee's collaboration with Lenovo leverages the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to enhance performance while safeguarding privacy. By processing video data directly on the PC, the system offers a 96% accuracy rate without the need for cloud-based analysis. This also improves processing speed and battery life, allowing users to perform their usual activities without interruptions.
Igor Bergman, Vice President of Lenovo Cloud and Software, Intelligent Devices Group, highlighted the synergy between the companies: "The collaboration between Lenovo and McAfee combines the unique expertise of two global leaders to deliver innovative solutions that empower consumers to live their online lives more confidently. Data shows that nearly two-thirds of people (68%) are more concerned about deepfakes now than they were a year ago. Lenovo's expertise as an end-to-end technology solutions leader and McAfee's experience in AI-powered online protection perfectly complement each other, optimising hardware and software capabilities for the benefit of the consumer."
The McAfee Deepfake Detector alerts users within seconds if AI-altered audio is detected in videos. The technology is designed to be unobtrusive, working in the background to protect users from scams and misinformation without compromising their PC's performance.
McAfee conducted research earlier this year across multiple countries to understand how AI and technology are shaping the future, with contributions from over 1,000 consumers in each of the US, UK, France, Germany, Australia, India, and Japan.
The McAfee Deepfake Detector is now available for English language detection on all new Lenovo Copilot+ PCs, which can be ordered through Lenovo and select local retailers. Lenovo Copilot+ PC customers receive a 30-day free trial of the McAfee Deepfake Detector, with pricing starting at USD $14.95 for the first year.
The McAfee Smart AI Hub serves as a go-to destination for information and educational content about AI and cybersecurity, with a focus on deepfakes and AI-driven scams. The Hub empowers consumers by allowing them to submit dubious videos for analysis, thereby contributing to public awareness and understanding of artificial content, and enhancing everyone's ability to navigate the digital world safely.
