Luke McManus joins Team Topologies as APAC Region Lead
Team Topologies has announced the appointment of Luke McManus as the new Region Lead for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) area. McManus, hailing from Melbourne, Australia, brings over two decades of experience in technology and delivery roles.
Matthew Skelton and Manuel Pais head Team Topologies, the organisation known for its approach to building humane work environments while achieving optimal value flow in technology sectors. Since the publication of their book "Team Topologies" in 2019, the organisation has become a recognised leader in organisational design, focusing on fast flow and adaptive team interaction models.
The 2024 Gartner's "Hype Cycle for Platform Engineering" acknowledged the importance of Team Topologies' framework. The recognition underscores its significance in addressing modern technology landscape complexities and its role in driving efficient digital transformations.
The creation of the APAC Region Lead role follows growing interest from leaders and practitioners looking to adopt the Team Topologies approach. Companies have successfully utilised the strategy to enhance innovation pace, streamline technology organisation flow, transition from project-driven to product-driven models, and scale cloud-native development and cloud adoption initiatives.
In his new role, McManus will serve as a brand ambassador and catalyst within the expanding community of advocates, practitioners, and transformation leaders. Among his duties, he will coordinate events and collaborate with Team Topologies' solution, advanced, and training partners.
McManus has a diverse background, having worked in sectors including banking, insurance, higher education, and retail—primarily focusing on technology and delivery. He spent 18 years at one of Australia's leading banks, starting in the call centre before assisting the bank with its agile transformation. He most recently served as a senior consultant and coach at CPrime - Elabor8, a prominent Australian management consultancy.
Expressing enthusiasm for his new position, McManus stated, "Having read the Team Topologies book a few years ago, I was immediately drawn to this innovative approach. The way that Team Topologies empowers humane and effective work among teams truly resonated with me. After managing and working in many teams throughout my career, I firmly believe that everyone deserves to be happy and feel a sense of purpose at work."
He added, "Recently, I was fortunate enough to spend some time with Matthew over Zoom, discussing ideas and concepts about Team Topologies and agile coaching. These discussions further strengthened my connection with this movement. When the opportunity arose to be part of Team Topologies, I simply could not say no. It is both a privilege and an honour to work alongside Matthew, Val, and the rest of the team. I can't wait to share Team Topologies throughout Australia, New Zealand, and the rest of the APAC region."
Matthew Skelton, co-author of "Team Topologies" and co-CEO of the organisation, expressed his confidence in McManus's capabilities. "I couldn't be more happy to welcome Luke McManus as the new APAC Region Lead for Team Topologies. Luke's extensive experience in technology and delivery roles brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep understanding of agile principles to our team. I truly appreciate passionate people, and Luke is definitely one of them. His expertise in fostering high-performing teams aligns perfectly with our mission. I am confident that under Luke's leadership, the APAC region will thrive and continue to grow," Skelton said.
