LabelShop has installed a Truepress Jet L350UV SAI from Jet Technologies, adding inkjet production to the Auckland label printer's digital operations.
The new press is designed to lift speed and capacity while expanding the range of label work the company can handle digitally. It also complements LabelShop's existing digital and conventional printing lines, giving the business another option for jobs that require a quick turnaround.
The investment aligns with LabelShop's long-standing focus on rapid delivery. The company has continued to add digital printing, embellishment, and finishing equipment as it has expanded its production mix.
"Fast turnaround has always been important to us. Our approach has always been that if a customer wants it today, we want to be able to give it to them today," said John Christie, Operations Manager at LabelShop.
"We've continued to invest in digital equipment, embellishment and finishing capabilities over the years, and the Truepress L350 is the latest addition. We have big hopes for what it can do for us."
Why this press
Christie said LabelShop chose the Truepress model for its output speed, colour consistency, and ease of use. He also pointed to the system's configuration, saying it reduces preparation work and makes operation more straightforward for staff on the shop floor.
That simplicity matters in a production environment where short-run work and urgent orders can put pressure on operators and machinery. By bringing more of the process into a single unit, LabelShop expects the press to make it easier to handle a wider mix of jobs without adding unnecessary complexity.
"What appealed to me about the L350 is how quickly it churns through the work and everything is contained in the one unit. There isn't a lot of pre-priming we have to do and it's a simple machine to operate and makes our operators' lives much easier," said Christie.
"The display is straightforward and it opens up opportunities for us to do more outside work and bigger labels."
Production running
Following installation and training, the machine was brought into production quickly. Christie said the set-up process was smooth and that the business moved into regular operation without problems.
He said straightforward start-up and shutdown procedures were among the system's practical advantages. In a production setting, those routine tasks can directly affect efficiency, especially when operators need to switch jobs quickly during the day.
"Training went quickly and the installation team got everything set up. We're running well now with no issues," said Christie.
"Start-ups and shutdowns are easy and the process itself is very straightforward. There aren't lots of menus to navigate around. You push play and it comes out the other side."
The press is now giving LabelShop more production headroom. Christie said the focus has shifted to moving more work onto the machine so the business can make fuller use of the added capacity.
Existing relationship
The installation also extends an established relationship between LabelShop and Jet Technologies. Jet supported the company through press selection, installation, and operator training.
Jet Technologies has operated for more than 45 years and serves customers across Australia, New Zealand, and several Asian markets. In print and packaging, it supplies equipment and materials to businesses across different parts of the production chain.
Christie said the supplier relationship had been an important part of the project. "I've always loved working with the Jet team. It's been a great partnership we've had, and working with Jet has been a really good experience," he said.
Jet Technologies said the installation reflects LabelShop's emphasis on responsive production and that the machine should help the printer take on more work while broadening the applications it can pursue.
"LabelShop has always put responsiveness at the centre of its business, and the L350 is well suited to that approach," said Jack Malki, Director at Jet Technologies.
"It gives the team the speed and capacity to get more work through production efficiently, while providing the flexibility to pursue new opportunities as the business continues to grow. We're pleased to continue working with John and the LabelShop team as they build on their digital capabilities," said Malki.
