HP unveils new Indigo presses & marks 3,000 global installs

Wed, 17th Sep 2025

HP has showcased its latest digital printing technologies for labels and packaging, and marked the global installation of 3,000 HP Indigo presses.

At Labelexpo Europe 2025, HP revealed its expanded HP Indigo digital press line-up aimed at enabling converters to address ongoing industry challenges such as rising costs, labour shortages, sustainability requirements, and faster turnarounds for a growing variety of products.

Significant among the new products are the HP Indigo 6K+ Digital Press with a new SmartControlSystem, the HP Indigo V12 Digital Press utilising LEPx technology, and the HP Indigo 200K, which extends HP's offering for flexible packaging and labels. The event also marked the installation of HP's 3,000th press for labels and packaging, with Dublin-based converter Watershed becoming the recipient of the milestone HP Indigo 6K+.

Noam Zilbershtain, Vice President and General Manager of HP Indigo, stressed the relevance of these developments to the current climate within the industry.

HP Indigo is leading the rapidly evolving labels and packaging industry with nonstop digital printing, intelligent automation, and AI-powered solutions. Our wide portfolio of presses, including the HP Indigo V12, HP Indigo 6K+, and HP Indigo 200K, is designed to meet various printing needs and empower customers to handle any demand at any scale.

HP Indigo V12 for high-output production

The HP Indigo V12 Digital Press is intended for high-speed, on-demand label production at 120 metres per minute. Designed to support mid- and high-volume print jobs, it enables faster turnarounds and management of multiple SKUs, aiming to deliver consistent print quality. According to the company, the V12 has recorded monthly production runs exceeding 1 million linear metres at customer sites and is intended to support converters in reducing labour needs, limiting dependence on analog equipment, and increasing operational efficiency.

Patrik Jenemark, Chief Executive Officer of Nordvalls, commented on the impact of the V12 Digital Press on their operations:

The HP Indigo V12 has fundamentally changed how we operate. It's a great complement to traditional flexo, it has improved our operational efficiency. We've reduced setup times, minimized waste, and improved responsiveness across our production floor. The press has given us the flexibility to scale smarter, with fewer machines and greater output. Its impact on our business is positive, and investing in a second HP Indigo V12 was a natural progression in our digital transformation journey.

HP Indigo 6K+ and 200K debut

The HP Indigo 6K+ Digital Press, introduced globally at the show, features a new SmartControlSystem and is designed to offer increased automation, reliability, and adaptability. It supports what HP describes as the broadest range of media and colour capabilities among digital label presses, with special inks available for particular applications. The SmartControlSystem aims to optimise uptime by enhancing diagnostics, scaling, and service processes through connected hardware and software.

Kirwan Waters, Director of Watershed, outlined the benefits experienced with the HP Indigo 6K+ press:

We're proud to be a Beta site for the HP Indigo 6k+ and HP Indigo's 3,000th digital press for labels and packaging worldwide. Investing in the HP Indigo 6K+ was a natural step for us as our demand for digital printing continues to grow. The press has strengthened our lead times, improved on-time delivery, and given us the flexibility to shift shorter runs to digital, freeing up capacity across the business. For our customers, that means better service, faster turnaround, and consistently high quality.

Completing the line-up, the HP Indigo 200K is tailored for mid-web applications including large labels, shrink sleeves, and flexible packaging. It offers an add-on slitter to enhance versatility and performance. To date, HP reports over 400 installations of its flexible packaging presses globally.

Expanded partnerships for primers

HP has extended its inline primer portfolio, which is intended to improve application versatility, converter flexibility, and supply chain resilience. It has added collaborations with Actega and Sun Chemical to its existing partnership with Michelman, thus providing HP Indigo press operators with more primer choices applicable to a range of substrates and requirements.

Sustainability and process design

HP has emphasised its focus on sustainability. Its industrial presses and consumables are designed to reduce waste, energy consumption, and material usage. HP Indigo Digital ElectroInk has achieved recognition from the Association of Plastic Recyclers for meeting leading recyclability standards and aligns with regulations such as France's Mineral Oil regulation and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

The booth presented at Labelexpo Europe was constructed with locally sourced, reusable materials, and all signage was printed using HP Latex technology on recyclable substrates. HP stated that all event waste was managed through the venue's recycling programme.

Workflows and automation

At the event, HP also demonstrated its PrintOS workflow ecosystem, highlighting AI-powered automation and connected workflows intended to facilitate increased flexibility and continuous production across packaging and labelling scenarios.

HP continues to invest in the development and deployment of digital print technologies for the labels and packaging market, with a stated goal of supporting industry transformation from analog to digital production models and helping converters address both operational and environmental targets.
