HMC Capital acquires Global Switch Australia, promising growth
HMC Capital has announced its acquisition of Global Switch Australia, a move poised to significantly impact the region's data centre landscape.
Damon Reid, Chief Executive Officer of Global Switch Australia, expressed optimism about the acquisition, highlighting its potential to bolster the company's local investment and enhance its service offerings. "This agreement marks an exciting new chapter for Global Switch Australia, which will accelerate our local investment and strategically position us for ongoing growth and improvement in the services we provide to our customers," he stated.
The CEO also outlined plans to extensively upgrade the company's infrastructure. "This extensive upgrade to our existing electrical and mechanical infrastructure includes increasing power densities and improving energy and water efficiencies for our customers as we approach 100MW of IT capacity," Reid explained.
This strategic upgrade is expected to cater to the latest demands in high-performance computing and artificial intelligence. Reid commented, "This upgrade to our Sydney campus will position us at the forefront of the latest customer demand for high-performance computing and AI inference workloads."
The CEO credited HMC Capital's experience and expertise as pivotal in furthering Global Switch Australia's strategic goals. "With the experience and expertise of HMC Capital, Global Switch Australia is primed to build on the momentum we have created in recent years and accelerate towards our strategic ambitions," he said.
In terms of digital infrastructure, Reid promised continued excellence. "We remain committed to setting global standards in digital infrastructure scale, resilience and connectivity. Our data centre campus is one of the best connected and certainly the best located site in the Australian market. It plays a critical role in our expanding digital infrastructure by providing the connectivity and scale in which modern businesses can rely," Reid explained.
Reid also stressed the importance of maintaining a collaborative relationship with the Australian Government. "As a now wholly-owned Australian company, we will continue to work closely with the Australian Government on attaining the appropriate accreditation through the Hosting Certification Framework," he said.
John Corcoran, Executive Chairman of Global Switch Australia, expressed satisfaction with the acquisition and described its positive ramifications for the market. "Global Switch Holdings Limited, owners of the economic interest in Global Switch Australia, and the Reuben Brothers, the legal owners of Global Switch Australia, are very pleased with the outcome of the transaction and are proud to have created the leading carrier hotel in the Sydney City market," Corcoran remarked.
He acknowledged the appropriacy of the timing for the business' transition to local ownership. "Given the recent challenges relating to ownership, we recognise that this is an appropriate time for the business to transition to Australian ownership to ensure its continued growth and success," Corcoran noted.
Corcoran also expressed gratitude to the management team for their dedication, hinting at fresh opportunities for them under new ownership. "On behalf of Global Switch Holdings Limited and the Reuben Brothers, I also want to express my gratitude towards the management team, many of whom have been with the business for more than 15 years, and will now have an opportunity to be a key part of this exciting new chapter of Global Switch Australia's development," he concluded.
