HID launches Signo Décor Reader for design-led spaces

HID has launched the Signo Décor Reader for physical access control, aimed at design-led commercial and public spaces.
The new reader extends HID's Signo range into settings where architects and building operators want security hardware to blend more closely with interior and exterior design. The Signo Décor Reader 30 mounts flush on European and China-style back boxes and sits behind a glass face.
It is designed for locations such as lobbies, hotels, transport hubs and mixed-use developments. The glass face is rated IK10 for impact resistance, and the unit carries an IP65 rating for indoor and outdoor use.
The reader uses the same underlying architecture as the wider Signo family, allowing specifiers and integrators to deploy it within existing Signo-based projects while maintaining the same approach to authentication and system management.
Security features include EAL5+ certified secure element hardware and support for HID's SIO data model. The reader also communicates with control panels over Open Supervised Device Protocol, enabling encrypted two-way monitoring.
Mobile access is also supported. Native Bluetooth and NFC let users present a smartphone instead of a physical card, using HID Mobile Access and digital wallet credentials alongside existing cards.
For building managers overseeing multiple sites, the reader can be updated and monitored through HID Reader Manager or remotely through HID Linq. This allows firmware and configuration changes without sending a technician to each location.
The product is also being offered as a module for integration into intercoms, lifts, turnstiles and other access hardware, giving original equipment manufacturers a way to use the same reader format across several types of building access equipment.
Design focus
The launch reflects a broader shift in the physical access market, where security devices are increasingly expected to meet architectural and aesthetic demands as well as technical requirements. In high-traffic developments, visible access readers have often been treated as functional equipment first, with limited attention to how they fit into premium or design-conscious spaces.
By introducing a flush-mounted model with a glass finish, HID is targeting that gap. The 90x90 mm reader is available in black or white, giving specifiers a limited but standardised choice for different interior schemes.
Prabhuraj Patil outlined HID's rationale for the product in a statement. "Security should not force a choice between how a space looks and how well it is protected," said Prabhuraj Patil, Senior Director, Physical Access Control Solutions for ASEAN and India Subcontinent, HID.
He added: "This belief is what drives HID's product development: to give customers choice without asking them to trade away the trust they have placed in our Signo line."
Regional rollout
The Signo Décor Reader 30 is available to order in Europe, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and the UAE. Additional model variants will be introduced in other regions later in the year.
HID is part of the ASSA ABLOY group and focuses on identity and access products used by businesses, public institutions and other organisations. It has more than 4,500 employees and supports customers in more than 100 countries.
Its initial availability across European, Asian and Middle Eastern markets suggests HID sees demand in regions where new commercial developments and transport projects often place a premium on both security systems and visible design standards.
The first model to reach market is the Reader 30, a square-format unit intended for flush installation, with broader variants to follow later in the year.
