Edifier expands R1280DB speaker range across 170 Officeworks stores
Edifier has expanded the distribution of its R1280DB Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers, with the updated model now available in more than 170 Officeworks stores across Australia. This move broadens access to what the company reports is its best-selling model in the country, combining high-fidelity audio with a choice of modern connectivity options and a range of finishes to suit different home environments.
Audio features
The R1280DB speakers build on the foundation of the established R1280 series, retaining a focus on sound quality while adding new functions. Each speaker incorporates a 4-inch bass woofer and a 13-mm silk dome tweeter. This hardware supports a continuous output of 42W, intended to deliver a balanced audio profile with defined highs, mids, and bass. The speakers also offer Soundfield Spacialiser mode, which is designed to create a broader soundstage for use in home theatre settings.
The frequency response of the updated model has been widened as part of this release, aiming to improve audio detail across different types of content, from music playback to gaming and television audio.
Connectivity options
The R1280DB model distinguishes itself through the inclusion of both wired and wireless inputs. Alongside traditional RCA connectors, the speakers are equipped with digital optical and coaxial inputs to accommodate modern AV sources such as televisions, computers, and gaming consoles. Bluetooth 5.0 support extends compatibility to mobile devices, tablets, and laptops, facilitating wireless audio streaming without reliance on cables.
According to the manufacturer, users do not need to download additional apps or register accounts to use the speakers, as they support plug-and-play operation across multiple platforms, including Apple, Android, Windows, and Mac systems.
Design and controls
Available in brown, black, or silver white wooden finishes, the design seeks to blend traditional aesthetics with elements suited to contemporary interiors. The unified look is maintained by positioning controls for volume, bass, and treble on the side panel of the primary speaker, keeping the cabinet face clear. Users can switch between inputs and make adjustments either via these onboard controls or with an included wireless remote, which now has an updated design.
Retail expansion
The speakers are priced at AUD $199.99 and are available both online and in-store through Officeworks. This wider rollout follows continued domestic and international demand for the R1280 series, which has become one of Edifier's leading global models.

The brand states that the R1280DB model is intended to provide a balance between price and performance, with a focus on durability and material quality while remaining accessible to a mainstream audience.
