Couchbase, the cloud database platform company, has expanded its executive leadership team as it welcomes Julie Irish as its first Chief Information Officer (CIO). As senior vice president and CIO, Irish will spearhead Couchbase's global IT strategy, aligning it with the firm's critical business aims.

Irish brings with her a commendable experience of almost two decades, where she has headed business operations, IT, system implementation, strategic planning, and migrations. Before joining Couchbase, she served New Relic in the capacity of Vice President of Business Applications and IT. Here, Irish successfully expanded the functionality, headed the accomplishment of complex IT projects and supported the firm's transition to a consumption-based business model. Irish's extensive experience also includes leadership roles at Harvard Business Publishing and the startup RichRelevance.

Matt Cain, Chair, President, and CEO of Couchbase expressed his delight on welcoming Irish aboard. He praised Irish's exceptional track record and profound expertise in tech innovation as a valuable addition to Couchbase. Cain says, "Julie’s appointment marks a key milestone in the next phase of Couchbase’s expansion. Julie’s leadership will further enable our world-class team as we scale beyond inflection and unlock the next phase of our growth with our database-as-a-service Couchbase Capella.”

In her new role, Irish is set to lead the global IT and security team and design strategies for systems and IT. This strategic planning will prime Couchbase's internal infrastructure for future expansion and efficiency. Additionally, Irish's broad-ranging experience in steering organisations through complexity and building strong business partnering teams will play an indispensable role in accelerating Couchbase's business expansion. She will also arm the global team with enhanced systems, tools and processes.

Julie Irish, reflecting on her new role, highlighted the strategic use of technology's criticalness in scaling all functions to stimulate growth. "It’s an exciting time to join Couchbase as more customers transition to the Couchbase Capella offering and consumption models. Couchbase has built a strong technology foundation and I am honoured to join the company contributing my insights, setting strategic priorities and collaborating with our world-class team", adds Irish.
