Cloudhouse has launched Foundry Flow for AWS WorkSpaces, aimed at automating application packaging and delivery in non-persistent desktop environments.

The launch addresses a problem that has become more visible as organisations shift end-user computing workloads to cloud desktops. In AWS WorkSpaces and similar environments, desktops can be rebuilt at every session, forcing IT teams to package, stage and deliver applications repeatedly.

That manual process can slow onboarding, add to operational workloads for desktop teams and leave users waiting for applications after they log in. Foundry Flow is intended to reduce those delays by automating packaging and publishing.

Operational issue

Provisioning a new workspace can take significant time before applications are added, especially when custom images and additional software are involved. In non-persistent environments, that work may need to be repeated regularly, turning application delivery into a recurring administrative task rather than a one-off deployment.

Cloudhouse positions the product as part of a wider push to address the gap between infrastructure modernisation and day-to-day application management. While organisations have adopted hosted desktops and virtualised application services, application delivery workflows have often remained dependent on manual intervention.

According to Cloudhouse, Foundry Flow can cut application packaging from days to minutes through automated workflows. The system is designed to give users fully provisioned desktops on their first day and support the delivery of large application estates across multiple regions and business units.

Wider market

Cloudhouse is targeting IT directors, heads of digital workplace, EUC leads, desktop engineers and other end-user computing specialists. These teams are typically responsible for ensuring desktops are available with the required applications while also managing cost, user support and consistency across distributed operations.

The focus on AWS WorkSpaces reflects broader demand for hosted desktop services as companies seek more flexible ways to manage employee computing environments. That shift has increased scrutiny of supporting processes such as image management, application packaging and user readiness at logon.

Stephen Earl, Head of Product at Cloudhouse, outlined the issue in operational terms.

"Provisioning a new workspace can take more than 45 minutes before any applications are installed. When custom images and additional software are required, this can extend to several hours. And the process repeats daily. IT teams are left manually managing application packaging for every user, often resulting in empty desktops at logon and frustrated employees waiting for their environments to be ready," he said.

Founded in 2010, Cloudhouse focuses on software for managing application estates and system change. Its portfolio includes Alchemy, used to run older applications on newer supported environments; Foundry, which automates packaging across Windows and Linux; and Guardian, which monitors configuration state and drift.

Foundry Flow extends the Foundry line into AWS WorkSpaces-focused application delivery. The aim is to make deployment more repeatable in desktop environments where session rebuilds can make traditional packaging methods difficult to sustain.

Earl said the launch forms part of that broader effort: "Foundry Flow represents a significant step forward in simplifying cloud desktop management, ensuring that application delivery keeps pace with the demands of modern, non-persistent infrastructure."
