Canon Oceania's 2024 Sustainability Report highlights progress
Canon Oceania has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, documenting the company's progress in meeting its annual sustainability goals and key achievements concerning its material issues. The report offers a transparent overview of Canon's sustainability performance and seeks to encourage better communication with its stakeholders, in line with the company's corporate philosophy of 'Kyosei' — living and working together for the common good.
Over the past year, Canon has earned significant recognition for its sustainability efforts, including its second Sustainability Advantage Gold Partner award. This accolade highlights the company's long-term commitment to national product stewardship schemes, investments in circular economy outcomes, and continuous efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The 2024 report outlines several key highlights, including Canon Oceania's re-alignment of its 2030 greenhouse gas reduction plans, designed to meet Canon Group's global targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The ambitious goals include reducing absolute emissions by 42% for Scope 1 and 2 emissions and 25% for Scope 3 emissions, compared to 2022 levels.
Moreover, Canon Oceania's investment in the Australia and New Zealand Recycling Platform (ANZRP) has led to the creation of RESIN8, a lightweight, low-carbon material made from hard-to-recycle e-waste plastic. This material, which would normally end up in landfills, has been developed to enhance the performance of structural concrete products and contributes to local circular economy capabilities.
Throughout 2023, Canon Australia has also continued to invest in and rebuild retail storefronts, thereby ensuring sustained support for local and regional economic development. Additionally, Canon conducted a photography workshop for ten Anangu youth from three Aboriginal communities in the remote NPY Lands of Australia.
The 2024 Sustainability Report also addresses six critical material issues essential to Canon Oceania's sustainability objectives. These issues include responding to the global net-zero imperative, strengthening Canon products and services through circular economy innovation, and building an authentic, diverse, and inclusive culture. The report also covers securing resilient supply chains, transforming business operations through digitalisation, and collaborating with partners to enhance the customer experience.
The detailed sustainability report outlines how the company has progressed against its 2023 objectives in each of these key areas. Canon Oceania is making strides in aligning its local initiatives with the broader global targets of the Canon Group, exemplifying its commitment to sustainable development and ecological stewardship.
