BAI Communications to acquire Titan ICT to boost mining networks

Wed, 30th Jul 2025

BAI Communications has entered into an agreement to acquire Titan ICT, a communications engineering provider with a focus on dedicated networks in the mining, resources and energy sectors.

This acquisition is intended to expand the private mobile network and operational communications capabilities of both BAI Communications and Titan ICT, providing broader solutions for customers in sectors where mission-critical connectivity is essential.

Through the agreement, BAI Communications will combine its spectrum access, financial resources, and experience in managing critical communications infrastructure with Titan ICT's expertise in designing and deploying networks for operational environments. The collaboration is aimed at offering enhanced support for the growing demand for dedicated connectivity and automation across mining and energy operations.

Titan ICT, which was founded by Mike Stegena in 2003, has built a reputation as a provider of advanced information and communications technology services, and is led by Managing Director Chris Upstone. The company has developed longstanding customer relationships, including several active projects delivering private mobile networks for major mining and energy businesses.

Key statements

Peter Lambourne, CEO of BAI Communications, said: "Titan ICT is a respected and high performing player in the Australian market, with deep capability in LTE, Microwave, IP and Radio networks and longstanding customer relationships. This acquisition is an important step forward in BAI's growth strategy, complementing our existing communications infrastructure and services expertise."
"It positions us perfectly to support the increasing demand for private mobile networks and operational connectivity from businesses in the mining, resources and energy industries plus others looking to harness the very significant benefits of increased worker safety and automation."

Chris Upstone, Managing Director of Titan ICT, commented on the agreement: "We are very excited about joining BAI Communications. The natural alignment between our businesses unlocks a range of opportunities to extend the services and support that we are providing our customers, positioning us to increase scale and leadership in the delivery of mission critical connectivity."

"BAI's heritage, proven track record for delivery and prioritisation of service make for a natural fit. Combining Titan ICT's established reputation and relationships around Australia and our expertise in deployment of operational networks with BAI's capital capability, creates the perfect platform to capture the increasing private mobile network growth opportunity."

Service expansion

With Titan ICT's established leadership team and industry expertise, the acquisition gives BAI Communications immediate access to a broader customer base, including ongoing projects with top-tier mining and energy companies. BAI's existing infrastructure, such as its broadcast and communications networks spanning most of Australia, will be complemented by Titan ICT's advisory, engineering, and systems integration services.

The agreement reflects BAI's efforts to broaden its role in the private telecommunications space, particularly in industries that require high reliability and operational safety. BAI Communications also has experience designing, building, and managing public safety networks and serving national broadcast clients in Australia, as part of its established infrastructure portfolio.

Next steps

The completion of the transaction is subject to regulatory clearance. Both organisations expect the process to conclude in the fourth quarter of the year.
