AMD's 5th Gen EPYC powers new Oracle Cloud E6 shapes

Tue, 1st Apr 2025

AMD announced that its 5th Gen EPYC processors are now powering Oracle Cloud Infrastructure's Compute E6 Standard shapes.

The introduction of 5th Gen AMD EPYC processors into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) E6 shapes promises to deliver up to twice the cost and performance efficiency compared to the prior E5 generation. These enhancements aim to provide improved performance and cost efficiency for a wide range of workloads.

This integration marks a continuation of AMD's efforts to expand its influence in cloud services, as its EPYC processors have been increasingly adopted across various cloud service providers for different compute instance types.

Dan McNamara, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Server Business at AMD, commented, "The rapid adoption of AMD EPYC processors in the cloud underscores our ability to deliver innovative, high-performance solutions that enable our partners to create highly competitive cloud offerings. The combination of OCI's flexible infrastructure and the performance of 5th Gen AMD EPYC processors helps customers accelerate their most demanding workloads while optimising their cloud infrastructure."

Donald Lu, Senior Vice President of Compute at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, stated, "Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is committed to providing our customers with the best-performing, most cost-effective cloud solutions. With the new OCI Compute E6 Standard shapes powered by AMD EPYC processors, we are delivering an exceptional combination of compute power, scalability, and efficiency that meets the demands of today's most complex workloads."

The OCI E6 Standard shapes are available as both bare metal instances and virtual machines in various regions, such as US East, US West, US Midwest, Germany Central, and UK South. OCI plans to extend availability to additional regions in the coming months.
