Amber acquires Charge HQ to boost EV charging solutions
Amber has announced the acquisition of Charge HQ, an Australian electric vehicle (EV) smart charging application known for its ability to optimise charging for cost-efficiency and emissions reduction.
Charge HQ facilitates energy management for EV owners by enabling direct charging from rooftop solar systems, creating configurable charging schedules, and optimising based on grid conditions such as electricity pricing and renewable energy availability. This capability allows homes to operate efficiently, integrating various brands of solar, batteries, and EV chargers.
The application has garnered strong support from its users due to its practical approach to managing EV charging. It offers a convenient and cost-effective solution and is compatible with most Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) EV chargers in the Australian market.
Amber Co-CEO Chris Thompson commented on the acquisition, describing it as a pivotal milestone in Amber's mission to provide Australians with tools to control their energy use. "Charge HQ's technology is a fantastic addition to Amber's offering, giving EV owners the ability to charge their vehicles in a way that maximises renewable energy use while also cutting costs."
"By combining Charge HQ's capabilities with Amber's real-time wholesale pricing technology, we're giving our customers another powerful tool to help them support Australia's transition to renewable energy."
Charge HQ co-founder Jay Banyer expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "Joining Amber means we can bring smarter, more advanced energy solutions to even more Australians. We believe that Amber will be a great home for Charge HQ due to the strong alignment in the company mission and focus on building great customer products. This partnership will help us expand our impact and reach even more Australians looking for innovative ways to manage their energy usage."
The integration of Charge HQ's capabilities is expected to enhance Amber's offerings, providing customers with advanced tools to leverage real-time pricing and increase renewable energy consumption. Additionally, this acquisition aligns with Amber's developments in vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, which is anticipated to contribute significantly to Australia's sustainable energy future.
The acquisition underscores Amber's strategic emphasis on delivering energy solutions to make renewable energy more accessible and affordable for Australians. Through intelligent energy management and real-time insights, Amber continues to support Australians in managing their energy requirements while aiding in the transition towards a sustainable future.
