VoltX Energy expands with AUD $40m battery deal in Australia

Mon, 30th Dec 2024

VoltX Energy has announced a significant expansion into the Queensland and South Australian markets, driven by a rising demand for solar battery storage solutions.

The energy solutions provider has secured an AUD $40 million deal with manufacturer Bytewatt to supply 10,000 battery storage units, positioning the company strategically within Australia's renewable energy sector.

According to David Sedighi, Chief Operating Officer of VoltX Energy, "Queensland and South Australia offer enormous potential for battery adoption. South Australia leads the country when it comes to solar take up with enormous potential for battery adoption as nearly half (44%) of all households in the state are already equipped with solar panels."

In Queensland, more than 60% of households are fitted with solar panels, prompting a shift towards battery storage systems. "Battery storage will be the next frontier, with growing awareness among households that solar energy without a battery system can't realise its full potential, driving demand for battery systems," Sedighi noted.

Sedighi further explained the increasing awareness among households: "There has been an awareness among households on how solar without a battery system can't realise its full potential and we are already seeing a great surge in demand for battery systems. We're anticipating an eight-fold increase from around 1,500 households per year to over 12,000."

The trend seen in Australia mirrors global patterns, such as in Germany, where more than half a million household battery installations were made in the past year. "This rapid growth mirrors international trends, with countries like Germany seeing more than half a million household battery installations in the last year alone," added Sedighi. "Australia is set to follow suit, with industry forecasts predicting up to 160,000 new battery installations nationwide in the next 12 months," he said.

With 3.2 million Australian households—or 32%—having rooftop solar panels, only 2% have household batteries. This figure is expected to increase significantly as battery costs decrease and energy companies introduce a "sun tax" on ratepayers and business owners.

"We've seen strong performance in NSW, and we are confident our expansion into Queensland and South Australia will follow the same trajectory," Sedighi stated, highlighting the robust market performance in other Australian states.

Describing Queensland's advantages, Sedighi remarked, "Queensland's abundant sunshine, coupled with a population eager for energy independence, makes it the ideal location for VoltX Energy's expansion."

Sedighi underscored the importance of battery storage in renewable energy efforts, stating, "Battery storage is essential for Australia's transition to renewable energy. It allows households to store excess solar power, reducing reliance on the grid and lowering carbon footprints. This is a critical step towards a sustainable future."
