Proofpoint has integrated its platform with the Claude Compliance API, extending its security and governance controls into Claude Enterprise and Claude Platform in Anthropic-hosted environments.

The integration is intended to let organisations apply existing controls for data security, data loss prevention, insider risk, AI runtime security and digital communications governance to AI-assisted work. Customers gain visibility across prompts, responses, files, activity logs and workflows tied to Claude.

The announcement comes as companies push AI assistants further into day-to-day operations. Proofpoint cited research showing that nearly nine in 10 organisations globally have moved AI assistants beyond pilot, while 42% have already experienced a suspicious or confirmed AI-related incident.

In Australia, four in five organisations have deployed AI assistants beyond the pilot stage, according to the company. It also said 60% are not fully confident their AI security controls would detect a compromised AI system.

Shared controls

Proofpoint argues that security programmes built around human activity now need to expand to cover AI activity as well. As AI agents take on a larger role in organisational workflows, they are gaining access to sensitive data, collaboration tools and internal systems.

In the first part of the integration, Claude Enterprise conversation content and Claude Platform activity logs are brought into Proofpoint's data security and insider risk product. Enterprises can then apply existing classifiers, behavioural risk models and data loss prevention policies to prompts, responses, files, projects and administrative activity linked to Claude Enterprise, while also monitoring activity logs from Claude Platform.

AI interactions are evaluated using the same detection logic already used for endpoint, cloud and email environments. The goal is to help organisations enforce one set of controls across both human and AI activity, rather than building a separate stack for AI oversight.

A second part of the integration extends Proofpoint's Digital Communications Governance tools into Claude Enterprise. This is designed to support supervision, retention, eDiscovery and investigations for AI-assisted communications.

Proofpoint argues that transcripts alone do not provide enough context for regulatory supervision or formal investigations. By bringing Claude conversations into its governance tools, customers can analyse communication patterns and reconstruct the sequence of activity behind decisions involving both humans and AI systems.

Executive view

Mayank Choudhary, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Proofpoint's Information Protection, Cloud Security, and Compliance Products Group, said the issue is now less about whether AI is being used and more about whether organisations can govern it through existing structures.

"Organisations cannot succeed with one governance model for people and another for AI," Choudhary said.

"Humans and AI agents operate in the same workflows, access the same sensitive data, and shape the same business decisions. They require one control layer. By extending our data security, insider risk, and communications governance solutions into Claude, we're enabling customers to manage AI activity through the same platform they trust to protect the rest of their enterprise. We are excited to integrate with the Claude Compliance API, which makes the integration of controls secure and scalable."

Proofpoint is pitching the integration to customers already using Claude Enterprise or Claude Platform and looking to fold AI oversight into broader compliance and security operations. The integrations are available to customers of both Proofpoint and Anthropic using Claude in Anthropic-hosted environments.

The move reflects a broader shift in the cybersecurity market, as vendors try to bring AI activity under the same monitoring and policy structures used for email, endpoints, cloud services and collaboration tools. As AI systems begin reading files, drafting communications, influencing decisions and triggering workflows, businesses face the challenge of preserving auditability and accountability without creating separate operational silos.

Proofpoint's approach is to use one control layer across endpoint, cloud, email, collaboration tools and AI applications, including Claude.
