OutSystems leaders predict AI trends & challenges by 2025

Today

Executives at OutSystems have shared their insights on the future trends in artificial intelligence (AI) and its applications by 2025.

Tiago Azevedo, Chief Information Officer at OutSystems, anticipates a shift in how businesses deliver customer service through the use of conversational AI. He stated, "In 2025, artificial intelligence (AI) will redefine how businesses deliver customer success, moving beyond traditional interfaces to conversational, prompt-driven experiences." Azevedo explained this by describing a scenario where a customer could return an online purchase by simply using natural language, without navigating through conventional processes.

However, he emphasised the importance of data quality in realising this transformation, noting, "AI can only deliver on the promise of real-time, personalized solutions if the data feeding these systems is accurate, relevant, and timely. Poor data quality risks AI delivering flawed responses, leading to customer frustration and undermining trust." Azevedo urges organisations to focus on data-driven conversational technologies to improve customer satisfaction.

Miguel Baltazar, Vice President of Developer Relations at OutSystems, predicted further integration of AI into both virtual and real-world interactions. "AI will continue to evolve, expanding its interactions in the virtual world by autonomously controlling computers and in the real world through autonomous vehicles, drones, and other IoT devices," said Baltazar. This evolution poses new ethical, security, and governance challenges.

Baltazar also highlighted the potential for AI in language translation, envisioning a future where "the language translation use case for AI will become ubiquitous," thereby breaking cultural barriers and fostering global communication.

Chief Product and Technology Officer Luis Blando pointed out the challenges companies will face with AI implementation, stating, "By 2025, companies implementing AI will face key challenges in data integration, privacy, scalability, talent shortages, and managing costs, all while ensuring fairness and ethical standards." Blando emphasised the importance of investing in technology and skills to overcome these challenges and unlock AI's full potential.

Blando also noted that customers of low-code application platforms are dealing with issues like tech stack modernisation and legacy system integration. He believes that AI-driven development and automation will be major trends, stating, "The biggest trend in software development in 2025 is likely to be AI-driven development and automation." According to Blando, this will enhance efficiency and allow developers to focus on strategic tasks.

Rodrigo Coutinho, co-founder and AI Product Manager at OutSystems, addressed the role of Agentic AI, saying, "Agentic AI will be the answer to many of our problems, but not all of them." He advised businesses to tailor their AI strategies to their specific needs rather than pursue the latest technological trends without due consideration.

Coutinho also described a forthcoming transformation in the role of developers. "Starting in 2025, a new era of software development will emerge to take the evolution of the developer role a step further," he said. He foresees developers moving from traditional coding to more strategic roles, leveraging generative AI and low-code technologies.

Further, Coutinho predicted that multi-modal communication will become standard, with people expecting to use various types of content to interact with AI models.
