Leaseweb achieves ISO 14001 certification for sustainability

Yesterday

Leaseweb has received ISO 14001:2015 certification, underscoring its dedication to reducing its environmental impact and adhering to international environmental management standards.

The cloud services and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) provider announced that the certification applies to its global operations. This certification, well-regarded the world over, mandates that Leaseweb is actively working to minimise its environmental footprint, comply with relevant legal requirements, and commit to sustainability in its business endeavours.

EY CertifyPoint, an accredited independent certifying body, awarded the certification following a detailed evaluation. This process confirmed that Leaseweb has put in place effective environmental management systems, including strategies, procedures, and measures aimed at managing ecological risks, cutting waste, and promoting efficiency in resource usage throughout the company.

Leaseweb has attained numerous sustainability milestones, such as implementing green facility management practices, investing in an entirely electric fleet of vehicles, and sourcing 100% renewable energy for its operations. The company's internal 'Green Team', consisting of members from various business areas, has played a significant role in driving Leaseweb's sustainability agenda. This team has worked to embed environmental consciousness into the organisational culture and has empowered employees to practice sustainability in their everyday operations.

"Achieving this important certification is a key part of our long-term sustainability strategy, and we are extremely proud of the commitment shown by the entire Leaseweb team," stated Pieter Dijkhuis, Chief Financial Officer, Leaseweb. "It also aligns very closely with our customers, who recognize the crucial importance of integrating sustainable technologies and processes across the modern digital ecosystem."

The ISO 14001:2015 certification aligns with the European Union's (EU) Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Attaining certification for CSRD is next on Leaseweb's agenda as it aims to fulfil its sustainability reporting obligations under this legislation. With its Netherlands operations already meeting CSRD requirements, Leaseweb plans to expand this compliance to other regions, including the UK, Germany, and Canada by the third quarter of 2024, and the U.S., Singapore, Japan, Australia, and Hong Kong by the fourth quarter of 2024. This international roll-out will help ensure that the company stays ahead of the industry standards in ESG (environmental, social, and governance) reporting.
