Katie Wilson appointed new Head of Policy at FinTech Australia
FinTech Australia has announced the appointment of Katie Wilson, a former global Policy Manager at Meta, as its new Head of Policy. Wilson, who possesses a background in law and policy, brings over ten years of experience to her new role. Her previous positions include roles at ANZ Bank, the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet, and law firm Herbert Smith Freehills.
Wilson's responsibilities in her new position will include facilitating industry relations with the government, leading policy submissions, and collaborating with FinTech Australia members to shape the organisation's stance on various regulatory matters.
"Policy is instrumental to the work we do at FinTech Australia for our members. Katie's appointment sees FinTech Australia double-down on the pivotal role of our organisation within the fintech community," said FinTech Australia CEO Rehan D'Almedia. "I look forward to working with Katie, shaping and reinforcing our positions in key areas such as the Consumer Data Right, payments and regulation of cryptocurrency."
Wilson expressed her enthusiasm for joining the team. "I'm excited to join the FinTech Australia team, driving the peak body's policy goals of working with the government and key decision-makers to improve competition, innovation, and financial literacy in Australia. I look forward to meeting with our incredible members as soon as possible," she said.
She further elaborated on her familiarity with the organisation's work since its inception. "Given my background in both policy and financial services, I've been well across FinTech Australia's work since its inception in 2016. Its policy efforts to date have thread the needle of managing the policy needs of a broad base of members, as well as distilling and articulating the industry's concerns in a way that's easy for regulators to understand and act on. My goal in the role is to maintain and build on that momentum, as many fundamental policy issues within the fintech industry begin to translate into applications and tools that will benefit everyday Australians," Wilson added.
The announcement of Wilson's appointment comes ahead of FinTech Australia's annual flagship conference, Intersekt, scheduled to take place at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne on 18 and 19 September. Last year's event attracted over 1000 delegates from various sectors including fintech, government, and corporate Australia.
