Education Perfect launches live maths progress tool to aid teachers

Today

Education Perfect has launched a new assessment-led Mathematics solution aimed at enhancing mathematics education across Australian secondary schools.

The launch arrives as recent reports highlight declining mathematics achievement in Australia, with a substantial gender gap and a third of students failing to meet basic numeracy benchmarks. These trends have raised concerns about the country's future STEM capacity and economic competitiveness, particularly in light of ongoing technical skills shortages.

According to the most recent Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) results, Australia now features one of the largest international gender disparities in mathematics achievement.

Education experts have warned that the sustained decline in maths performance may jeopardise Australia's ability to sustain and grow its future STEM workforce.

Teachers face increasing challenges in delivering effective and consistent mathematics instruction due in part to changing student-teacher dynamics and rising workloads. In a recent Education Perfect survey of 400 teachers across Australia and New Zealand, 52 percent reported that regular formative assessment is too time-consuming to be implemented consistently.

The survey found that while teachers require meaningful data to instruct adaptively, current approaches to formative assessment are labour-intensive and often lack complete alignment with the curriculum.

Education Perfect's new mathematics offering addresses these challenges by integrating live progress tracking into the classroom environment.

The system provides educators with immediate insight into each student's mastery of specific curriculum outcomes and automatically recommends targeted learning content. The company states this approach eliminates the need for additional spreadsheets or manual marking, allowing teachers to respond promptly to learning gaps as they appear.

The platform includes features such as curriculum-linked diagnostics, growth tracking, and recommendations to help educators maximise their impact. It incorporates curriculum coverage for both the latest Australian Curriculum and the Victorian Curriculum, with a phased rollout of a New South Wales-aligned version underway. All current Education Perfect Mathematics customers will gain access to the core assessment features as part of their existing subscriptions.

This product release is part of Education Perfect's broader initiative to support maths education, which currently extends to 220,000 students worldwide.

The company is also in the process of updating maths learning resources to strengthen their connection to assessment data and help teachers deliver targeted recommendations for individual students.

James Santure, Head of Product Impact at Education Perfect, said: "It's no secret that maths performance in Australia is in crisis, and we're on a mission to reverse that trend. This launch marks one of our most important steps to date. By fusing curriculum-aligned assessments with live growth data and insights, we're putting world-class pedagogy - and precious time - back into teachers' hands. Every assessment pinpoints exactly where a student needs help, and every recommendation links straight to refreshed content built for today's curriculum. Our goal is simple: give educators the insight and tools to reverse Australia's numeracy decline, and ensure every student can achieve maths mastery for a more secure future."

Early pilot trials have generated positive feedback from teachers using the platform. Julia Min, Math Product Advisor and Maths Teacher, said: "As a maths teacher, this new product is an excellent tool which gives teachers many options on assessing their students. It is gamechanging in the sense that it gives immediate, actionable insights into where students are at, allowing them to assign tasks to address any potential gaps in their learning in real time. The learning snapshot reports are a great way for teachers tracking progress—they make it so easy to see exactly where each student is struggling or excelling."

"And the new lessons with the built-in difficulty model are fantastic. Maths teachers can tailor the learning experience to meet the needs of every student, ensuring they stay engaged and challenged at the right level. This product isn't just a tool; it's a partner in ensuring students reach their full potential."

Camilla Andrews from Mountain Creek State High School commented: "It's so handy and quick to do, find out what my students know, and what to teach next. My class is made up of multi -level classes, so it helps with what classes to teach next."

The new mathematics solution includes various reporting features such as the Learning Snapshots report, which indicates how each student is progressing towards specific curriculum outcomes.

The Compare Assessment report allows educators to track student growth over time, while the Assessment Analysis report groups students by learning gaps and suggests appropriate learning interventions.
