Callidus enhances data management with Macquarie's Azure cloud

Yesterday

Callidus Process Solutions has deployed Macquarie Telecom's Azure public cloud services to enhance its data management and compliance in line with upcoming cyber and ESG regulations.

Based in Perth, Callidus facilitates flow control for industries such as mining, oil and gas, and new energy, focusing on sectors such as battery minerals and LNG to support energy transitions. The company is expanding into emerging markets including Papua New Guinea and Indonesia, necessitating improvements in IT performance, data management, and cost efficiencies.

Callidus has embarked on utilising Macquarie's hybrid cloud solutions, initially employing Azure public cloud services with plans to extend workloads across public and private cloud infrastructures located on both Australian coasts. This technological deployment aids the company in complying with anticipated federal cyber security and climate reporting mandates due to commence in 2025 and 2026 respectively.

"These requirements are important considerations for our customers, so we wanted to ensure we had a clean, structured data environment to accurately report. Macquarie's tech and team of experts have been vital to achieving this while also reducing the environmental footprint of our IT systems," said Jason Cavallaro, IT & Digital Director at Callidus.

Callidus has reported an approximate 20% cost reduction in its cloud operations. These savings are largely attributed to cost and resource optimisation, server consolidation, and the elimination of redundant data. The company benefitted from Macquarie's status as an Azure Expert managed service provider (MSP) in achieving these savings.

Further benefits reported by Callidus include decreased application latency, improved customer service, and faster issue response times. "Whether it's solving problems overnight before I even see them, service delivery managers being available on a Sunday to quickly solve an issue before our teams start their week, or continuing to identify further cost savings for us, the service is like nothing else that exists in the cloud and telco industry," commented Cavallaro.

Macquarie Telecom is also supporting Callidus' ambitions to develop AI capabilities. Callidus is exploring the use of AI to convert 2D drawings into 3D visuals, drastically reducing the time required for this process from hours or days to mere minutes, which allows their engineering and design teams to focus on additional tasks.

Cavallaro stated, "If we look at where our industry is going, AI is absolutely vital to our customers. One area we're exploring is using AI to turn 2D drawings into 3D visual drawings, a process that could be cut down from hours or days into just minutes and free up our engineering and design teams to do so much more."

"But that can only happen with the right data and cloud foundation at the heart of it, and we not only have that with Macquarie, we have a team of AI and data experts at our disposal to educate us and continue to fine-tune our systems as we take that journey," Cavallaro added.

Following the success of the cloud integration, discussions between Callidus and Macquarie are ongoing regarding the implementation of a variety of cloud and network cyber security systems, including a security operations centre (SOC) and secure access server edge (SASE) technology.
