Tesserent to lead Victorian Cyber Security Showcase in July
Tesserent has been announced as the Plenary Chair of the Victorian Cyber Security Showcase, which will be held at Pullman Melbourne in Albert Park on Tuesday, 23 July. The event is organised by the Public Sector Network and aims to address the evolving cyber security challenges faced by various Victorian government agencies and local councils.
Tesserent CEO, Kurt Hansen, is set to serve as the Plenary Chairman. He will be joined by several notable speakers, including Dovid Clarke, Victorian Government's Chief Information Security Officer, and Shane Moffitt, the Deputy Chief Information Security Officer for the Victorian Government. Other participants include Luke Halliday, Executive Director of Technology and Digital Platforms at the Department of Government Services, and representatives from Victoria Police and other local government bodies.
Kurt Hansen commented on the evolving cyber threat landscape, stating, "The threat landscape continues to evolve as adversaries have access to new tools and techniques. Buoyed by the rising tide of AI, attackers ranging from nation-state actors to cybercriminals are relentless in their pursuit of Victorian citizens and businesses' sensitive data and the compromise of our local critical infrastructure."
Hansen expressed Tesserent's enthusiasm for its role in the event, saying, "Tesserent is delighted to play a key role in the Victorian Cyber Security Showcase, which will bring together senior Victorian state and local government and public sector cyber security experts with the private sector cyber security industry leaders to dissect issues, share best practice learnings and foster heightened collaboration."
In addition to his role as Plenary Chairman, Hansen will host two fireside chats. The first, with Luke Halliday, will focus on next-generation technologies, threat detection, data security, and identity management. The second chat, with Shane Moffitt, will delve into cyber strategy development, risk assessment, and prioritising vulnerable areas.
Keynote addresses at the showcase will cover themes such as the current cyber security landscape, major threats to Victorian government agencies, and the global threat landscape's impact on Victoria. Sessions will also highlight initiatives to promote innovation securely, the ongoing threat of ransomware, and the protection of critical infrastructure such as water and utility systems.
The event will feature panel discussions on a variety of topics, including enhancing cyber threat intelligence for Victoria, the human element in cyber security, and strategies for creating a cyber-aware culture. One of the significant discussions will focus on uniting governmental departments to disrupt cyber threats effectively and explore the future of citizen identity and trust through enhanced security measures.
Strategic advisor and former Tesserent Non-Executive Director, Tony Sheehan, will facilitate a roundtable on the Essential 8 program roll-out. Sheehan brings extensive experience from his 32-year career, including roles such as former ASIO Deputy Director-General and former Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). His session will offer insights into incident response coordination across government and industry, and how communication can be enhanced.
